Is this Kyosho Nexus 30 a good starting heli? I want to buy the Ultimate Combo on www.towerhobbies.com but I wanted the "expert opinion".

I have been registered here for more than a week so I guess that makes me an expert!?

Seriously, I posted here and got some great advice before I decided on the heli to get. I recommend for you to do a little more research before "settling" for that nexus! Check out the thread I started called 'Newbie'. Then check www.raptortechnique.com and go to the links. There you will find lots of info and manufacturers websites to base your choice on. I have discovered that everyone here has their favorite and can be a little biased towards that particular product.

I also recommend that you don't get the ultimate combo. The radio is a good one but you will find that the micro piezo gyro w/ s148 servo is just not up to the task. Again research the different gyros and make your choice. I got the Century PG2000 w/Futaba Digital Servo. That combo is about $160, Heli Hut has the Futaba 401 w/ digital servo for $200. From my understanding, it is well worth the extra $$.

I know this can get a little confusing at first but it becomes a part of your life very quickly. I have a car, a boat and 9 airplanes and I can't wait to get this heli up! Oh yeah, don't forget the simulator! If cost is a hurdle, check the Great Planes G2 lite at TowerHobbies. That seems to be a good way to go. If not, then go to Heli Proz and get the G2 W/ USB interface.

Any Questions?

If you decide to go for a nexus, you might try looking for one for sale used. I picked mine up with everything but the reciever, transmitter, battery and support gear for 325. granted it was full of 148's of which I changed out the throttle and tail rotor servo for hitec 422 and 525 respectively. I like how it flies, very stable, but it will not really do anything beyond the beginning learning. I am waiting for my hawk 4 to come in so that I can tear out the gyro and good servos and fly it. btw, get a heading hold gyro, it helps the learning curve soooooo much you wouldn't believe. just be sure to after you learn to hover with heading hold on that you practice some with heading hold off.

Nexus has been good to me!
The heli itself is a pretty sound beginners machine. When I first got mine I wasn't sure if I made the right purchase...kind of got caught up in all of the anti-Nexus talk that goes on around here. I really have learned to love it though, the darn thing just keeps flying and flying. I once heard someone say that the key to keeping a Nexus in the air was to "just fly it", and i've found those to be wise words. Very low maintanance and fairly low parts prices are a bonus. As was stated in one of the previous posts, some of the gear that comes in the Tower combo is a little questionable, meaning that you will be upgrading soon, most likely to HH gyro and digital tail servo, but everything else works great!!
It all comes down to whatever each of us gets for a heli, thats what we're going to be proud of, and I'm pretty happy with my Nexus. Do some research and find the bird thats going to suit you best and then FLY, FLY, FLY. I guarantee you'll end everyday looking like this .
Have Fun...
