I have a Morley Hughes 300C

I have a Morley 300C but it is now sitting for forlorn in my garage. The plastic is cracking from age and the two yellow tail rudders are missing.

It still looks almost flight ready but the plastic seems too old for flight...

Does anybody have a picture of this thing (yellow tail stabilizers) so I know what it's suppose to look like? I'd like to make it look like it might fly again...

I had one site in my bed room from 1996.

It was because I can hardly got the parts for it in Hong Kong.

The young fliers don’t know they’re born these days…(umm sound like my dad.eek). I loved my little Morley 300’s, a beautiful flying model. Stable and great. This was a major step up for me from my sport 500-fixed pitch. God thinking about it I’ve had Morley 300’s,MXB, MX Ranger, Maverick, Maverick 500E,and a Maverick F1. All wire drive and all the maintenance you could ever wish for plus some.

Jim

I am still in the process of rebuilding mine and it is not too far off ready. If I get it flying I will post some pictures. It is a modified model with eCCPM control and a few other mods.I remember seeing one of these at a flyin in Cheltenham many moons ago and was taken with it then.It will make a change from my Raptor and Shuttle.

Chris,

If you saw it in Cheltenham it might have been my first one

That was red and spent a lot of its life with a three bladed head on it. It was last seen in the Traplet loft.

I`ve got a Morley Hughes 500E with Robbe mechanics in it, fitted `em meself with some minor grief. The fuselages are still available here in the UK, cost around £110. red or white gel-coated fibre-glass, nice mouldings, with scale looking skids, panel lines etc.

I've had one, but never again. Instead of starting off on these old buggers then moving onto a raptor or shuttle. I went through several raptors then decided I needed a change and went for an old morley:

Putting it together after reading today's manuals and seeing the improvements over the years really was amazing. Next time I try scale it will be vario all the way me thinks!

I understand what you are saying about modern hellicopters being a
doddle to set up and use.

A lot of things have been changed from the original and don't appear in the manual.

Even so I look at it as a bit of a challenge and if I do get it to fly it will be an achievement.

I have now got the engine and sevo's installed so i will soon know if it will leave the ground (and hopefully get down again).

Good luck Chris. Hope it goes well, I never even had the balls to get my engine running! There was slop in every linkage and interaction with all the cyclic controls so I thought I would stick to the rappies.

Apparently the spares are extremely hard to get hold of. You will most likely end up having to buy another model for spares, they pop up on eBay every now and again. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Chris, I'd be interested in seeing your CCPM set-up as I am currently completing my Hughes 300, ah these things bring it all back to me and what about those instructions!!!!

Jim, good to see you are still active (in the hobby), I enjoyed your article on the electric Huey in this months MHW, inspirational!! I think I saw you Hughes at Cheltenham all those moons ago...and Yeovil,Yeovilton, Shepton Mallet etc etc.. Don't you wish you were back in Blighty with all those lovely damp windy fly-ins and strange place names... I'm a veteran of Jim M's old field (desborough cut island in Walton) so a real dyed-in-the-wool Morley fan...

Cheers

Let's see, do I miss drizzle ...........No!

Thanks for the response to the Huey piece. I finally decided that the original head was worn "beyond economical repair". I was able to build a Mikado head from a friend's wreckage pile (a story in itself) and grafted that on using a wash-out and Thunder Tiger swash plate.

The model is now flying with TG blades and I had a blast at Circumgyration in between judging (another story in itself!).

I have two 47Gs and the 300 parked in my shop. The 300 is flightworthy and the others could be with some work. I am seriously considering converting one of these to electric when I have completed the Wik Alouette 111 I am working on - also electric.

Morley Augusta 109 kit w/retracts

I have a morley 109 kit... The fuselage is assembled with the retracts installed. The aluminum plate is together with the main shaft. The original wooden blades with the black covering are not finished.
The windows are not installed but the holes are cut out on the fuselage.
Some of the interior wood is missing? I think someone was going to install a different set of mechanics inside.
All of the parts seem to be there (minus the missing wooden pieces) including the manual...

Regards

I learnt to fly on the Morley Hughes 300, back in the days when men flew with mechanical gimbals in their gyros. Jim Davey checked her over and taught me to fly at Cheltenham. Gudday Jim!

Not high tech in its day but priced at the bottom end of the market it got me into helis. Also built the Morley Bell 47 but never flew it, finally built and flew a Schluter Junior 50. gave up in 1991.

Now after much deliberation I have returned to the fold and bought myself a 60.

Jim, if you read this send me a PM

Morley Helicopters

I’m trying to gauge the interest in Morley helicopters of all types and ages. If you have one and have problems getting spares, let me know, if you have one and may need spares in the future, let me know, if you have spares but don't know what to do with them, again let me know. This is open for input from all countries.

I’m thinking of setting up a project related to Morley helicopters but want to find out some base info first.

Please feel free to forward this posting onto other forums if you feel appropriate.

Thanks

Hughes 500E

I found a rather neglected morley hughes 500e at a car boot sale in which someone had grafted a set off F1 carbon mechanics less servos and engine, fitted OS 50 and some rather tastey digi servos, the boom had been damaged by a swipe off the blades this was repaird tnen I took a mould of the whole thing incase anything ever happened and maybe fit my rapter into one, I have found parts arent that readily available but I have aquired some parts from quick uk, I am interested in finding where I can get hold off scale parts for this thouge ie guns rockets and cockpit if anyone can help.
