Hi,

I have just received a new Orbit charger, and maybe I am a bit slow, but I have no idea how to charge properly.

I have the HB and the 7 cell 600MaH nimh.

Please can some one help me with the correct charging procedures.
- I have tried the discharge and recharge - did not work correctly.
- I have tried the easy charge and only get 350 mah charged,
- Even the peak charge does only about 8 min at 1A charge ??

Look forward to your help,
Thanks,
Alan.

Do you know what the charge state of the batteries was when you started??? Did you set the peak level before starting??? You only need to do this once but is in the set-up portion of the manual... I will admit the manual is a bit vague, but we can get through it... I'm at work now and will check back in when I get home and see if we can get it going...

Tim,

They were pretty run down , just bearly turning the rotors.
Also the charger starts charging from 0 mah and then gets to around 350 and stops.

Thanks,
Alan.

It will always start from 0 and records the ma's it puts in... If the pack is not very low, it won't put in very much... If your pack was run down (not enough power to fly the machine) and they were 600's, I would think that it would easily put in 600+ma's...

In your manual, page 8, it tells you how to set the delta peak level... I run mine for NiMh's at the highest setting but choose your own setting... ( I recomend at least the mid level of the three...)

Then to get the discharge to work, you must have it on, I believe this is explained on page 22 and then yur pack has to have charge for this to work... It won't discharge an empty or near empty pack... you would have to charge it first...

I use the "reflex" charge most of the time on my packs and run them with the highest delta setting and in the 5A range... (I use 32 cell packs of Ultra Metal 3000 and GP-3300's & I have 6 of these so a few extra minutes don't bother me and the packs stay cooler...)

I have used most of the modes of the charger except the Lithium stuff... I hope to get a couple of those for my V-E soon... I do like the charger and plan on getting a second one this winter...

What is your battery source or power supply??? This can be critical as well if you have your in volt set too high... Again this is adjustable with the "switch-off voltage" setting on page 22...

Tim,

Thanks for the input, I will try get to charge my cells later tonight, or tomorrow.
So the MAH at the end of the charge is only an indication of how much was put into the battery. I thought it was the total level of MAH stored in the battery. Guess I misunderstood the reading, thanks again for pointing that out.

I will also try the reflex charge from now on.

Thanks again,
Alan.
