e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Hummingbird CP Upgrade?

Anybody hear anything else about the collective pitch upgrade?

The stock hummingbird is great for just hovering but as soon as you try to do any kind of forward flight it pitches upward and falls backwards making it very hard to recover. Anyone else having this problem?

I still have the stock 280 motor and did the collar upgrade. Getting tired of buying crash parts because of trying to do forward flight . Does the 370 motor help with this at all? I can hover for ever but any forward output makes this thing fall and i have no cyclic control to recover.

Maybe ill just stick with the big birds until the CP upgrade comes out.

you need to get a head stiffiner, this will help you pitch up problem

Hornet Carbon fiber blades do wonders for this. Poke around and find my videos of the Hummingbird in forward flight. It really is like night and day.

I have just received the new Helihobby CNC head for the Hummingbird. This really reduces the coning angle with the stock blades and makes forward flight easier. You can also adjust the pitch on each blade to help tracking. Reducing the pitch of the main blades will also help with the pitch up.

Steve that video is awesome. Didnt think it was capable of this. What would be the better investment...the blades or the head?? I iwll probbaly also get the 370 motor.

Thanks,
Mike

I waiting on that cp upgrade myself.

would a 380 motor go on the hummer?
It is coming off my aerobird plane.
will this engine overwhelm my tail motor?

Hey, helihobby has a nice step by step informational on upgrading the hummingbird to cp with hornet cp kit. Here's a link:

The takeoff is simply showing how the brushless works with a fixed pitch heli

6-11 was filmed by a friend at his field.

HB was actually filmed by my 5 year old son.

I'll have a better video up soon though.

Hey Stevem

Your heli lies pretty cool.

Is that the Hummingbird or Feda?
Reason I ask is that i have the Feda But yours seem to be much more stable with with mmore acceleration.

Which motors do you have?
Do you have that CP upgrade?

Halla at me,

I have a brushless RZ350 motor and Castle Creations Phoenix 10 ESC, Helihobby shaft collar and Hornet fixed pitch carbon fiber blades. The blades make a big difference as does the brushless.

I also run a 2 cell pack of 1200mah E-Tech lithium polymer cells. The tail motor is a B2C - pretty much similar to stock. On the takeoff videos, you can see that the tail has a hard time keeping up. With the stock blades the heli would spin all teh way around on a full throttle blip.

I have been promoting this brushless combo, but I should say that it really only works well with the Hornet blades.

Here is the exact setup -

Hummingbird from helihobby
B2C tail motor
GWS 2A tail esc
Jr G410T heading hold gyro
GWS 4 channel micro receiver
Hitec HS55 servos
Razormotors.com RZ350 motor
Castlecreations.com Phoenix 10 ESC
8 tooth main pinion
stock tail pinion
Hornet CF blades from Helihobby
Homemade aluminum tail boom
hoemade aluminum skids
2x1200mah E-Tech lipoly cells (good for about 24-27 minutes flight time)

I am now playing with the helihobby CNC aluminum head and it is a nice piece of hardware. I also have the matching CNC collar now. Both nice upgrades as far as I can tell with my limited tests so far.

Overall the best theing I think anyone could do on teh heli is a 300, 280bb, 370 motor adn Hornet CF main blades. The brushless is for those who fly very often and need a long life motor.

how much would all this cost?

It seems like it will break the bank.

The blades are about $35.00 but will outlast literally a dozen ore more stock blades so they do pay for themselves.

The brushless/ESC can be found for about $120.00 so it easily outcosts the heli with Hornet blades. I would not recommend this motor on stock blades as the tail simply cannot cope with the torque those stock blades require to spin.

I hear that there is a model in testing as we speak. I have heard great things said about it.
