Is Lustercoat a polyurethane or an enamel or soemthing else?

I'm shooting Cheveron Polyurethane on my heli and need to shoot some clear. I have a few cans of LusterCoat Crystal Clear on the shelf but I don't see where it tells me what kind of paint it actually is.

Can I spray LusterCoat clear over polyurethane? I just need a good thin coat to seal some vinyl decals and even out the finish.

I believe Lustrekote is similar to Chevron paint. It's NOT an epoxy paint like Formula U (Formular U is a polyurethane similar to Rustoleum). I have sprayed lustrekote clear over enamel before (i.e. Krylon and Model Master with out a problem) A rule of thumb is that you can spray polyurethane over most anything but you can't coat over polyurethane with anything but polyurethane. Also check the solvents in each. For example tolulene/tolulene solvents are compatible with each other as are tolulol/tolulol. BUT don't try to mix tolulene with tolulol. This will NOT work.

If in doubt test spray your color coat then use the clear coat and see what happens. I know Chevron makes clear (both flat and gloss) in a spray. Chevron paints are also compatible with most enamels like Krylon.

lustercoat

I recently tried to spray a clearcoat of lustercoat over plasticoat. Everything looked fine but the lustercoat dried and the plasticoat got gummu underneath and never did dry. Good thing it was a test piece.
