yes it is fixed pitch... get some carbon blades if you can afford them.

as far as engines go not to sure what to suggest as im still running on the factory engine....but i think i will need to upgrade...i think there is a 370 engine that works quite well from helihobby.com .

I Just got my Humming Bird Yesterday from Century. It came with the motor upgraded. It looks like Century is providing the 370 with the new kits.

I would have to say about the best motor you can get for the Hummingbird is a brushless Razor RZ350 or an Astro 010 heli motor. Get the Castle Creations phoenix 10 ESC with it and you will have more power and longer flights and a motor that will outlast several Hummingbirds.

I use the RZ350 and really like it.

Hornet fixed pitch carbon or fiberglass blades work really well on the HB. It transforms it into a very stable, responsive heli that is happy in forward flight. And they are almost indestructable.

I have to agree with Steve, brushless is best by a long way, and the Phoenix 10 controller works great. Brushless has more power, and is more efficient. They are more expensive initially, but will save you money in the long run, as there is nothing to wear out except the ball bearings. I just wish there were a brushless alternative for the tail motor.

Brushless Tail Motor

I have found a possible brushless tailmotor set up
Since it includes a 4 to 1 gearbox you can use the stock propeller from the hummingbird. All you would have to do is build a mount for the tail. Not a bad deal for $82.00 with speed control. When you have 2 seperate ESC's do you have to use a Helicopter radio to mix them together?

The astro firefly is NOT a brushless motor. Tower is wrong and I will let them know fo their error. It is a coreless motor which has a higher efficiency than a standard motor construction, but it does use brushes (or metal wipers actually). Coreless motors need a high frequency ESC to run properly at part throttle and thus the reason Astro includes a high frequency ESC.

The need for high frequency in a coreless is one reason I am skeptical about running an Orion coreless in teh hummingbird without a high frequency ESC.

Now, this is not to say the Firefly won't make a good tail motor - I believe it would, but it will have a shorter life span than a brushless motor.

Madguns,
When you use separate ESC's, you need to have either a heli transmitter with revo mix, or a heading hold gyro, or a mixer board that will drive an ESC.

So I have a Futaba Skysport but I also have a CSM Headlock gyro. I guess the signal from this gyro is strong enough to use seperates without any need for a REVO mix radio. I dont know if my Skysport has Revo or not. It does have a boatload of adjustments though. I poped open the back and there are Duel rate adjusters for Airlerons Elevator High and Low Throttle ATV Also TH AST and Rud AST The switches include servo reverser for 6 channels , Elv Flap mix, Flaperon mix Rud AST.
I have messed with the throttle adjustment and I turned my Rudder assist way up to get max athourity on my tail rotor. Is this feature what is called REVO? Thanks for the info Jeff

I don't know what rudder assist is, but if you can turn it on, and still fly with a heading hold gyro, then it is not revo. You must have revo off to fly with a heading hold gyro.
