Wanted to know if any one haves this engine. I can't get the clutch all the way in the bell housing. It's sticking half way out. This is going in the voyager.

I think the IMZ requires a different motor mount than the OS. Do you have the IMZ motor mount?

Is it possible the mount is upside down? I think the OS mound can go into the frames either way, but will only fit correctly one way.

Had one for ages. Congratulations, you have the best 50 size engine availiable in the world!! Yes the mount goes up the wrong way to the OS mount. You may have to loosen the bolts that hold the mount within the frames and push it up. If you have the old Voyager the bas frame requires a little dremmel action. You should be able to get a good alignement without to mch trouble.

Just on another note while you have it in pieces replace the nine tooth for a ten. The engine has heaps of torque and it suits the heli much more and saves fuel. Get the big tank (K&S). The IMZ after a while does not prime well upon starting for the first time. I'm not sure if this is the reeds being stiff or they are sticking but I have found force priming works well ie. pour a little fuel in the carb or when fueling just open your fuel line clamp. You can't believe how good these motors are. Wish they brought out the 90 they were working on.

Oh I forgot. A header tank mounted at the same height as the carb will remedy engine running probs. If you pick heli up and lean to the right it richens and the oppsite the other way (think thats right).

Thanks for the reply. The clutch will go up in the housing but the mounting holes will not line up so i guess i will have to do some dremel work. The kit is new and i have the mount that JR calls for and what i can tell that it will only mount one way on that mount. By the way do you know the factory needle settings all the instructions are in jap. Go fiqure.

IMZ engine mount

The IMZ mount goes flat side DOWN, not up as the manual shows for the OS 50 mount. If you do it as illustrated you end up with the clutch sticking out about 8mm. If you turn the mount around it works perfectly and it sticks out about .5-1mm like it should!

Needle settings

Well, up here in Denver where I broke in the IMZ, I had it open almost 4 turns to get it running right and quite rich. I ran 10 tanks thru it just like the manual stated. The first one I idled just sitting on the ground. The other 9 were done hovering and some FF.

Temps were only around 100 while breaking it in and that was when it was 30C outside! Now it likes to stay around 130 while kicking butt. It's an amazing little engine and it likes to run cool.

As for final needle settings, I think it's around 2.5 turns. NEVER close it beyond 1 1/2 turns from open, though!

Write me back with any more questions.

Needle settings

Run in period
about 3 turns main and 4 turns low

After
1 3/4 main and 4 low.

Can't remember exactly but I am sure the manual says about 2 turns on the main. Guy I know got it translated but not certain.

I found I needed to be very rich on the low side as it tended to overspeed. The one thing you will find is that the engine is not that sensitive to tuning. One or two clicks makes stuff all difference. I believe this is due to the reed induction system or carb. One thing I know for certain is it takes longer than an OS 50 to run in. Its a slow process and power comes gradually. Don't rush it, just take your time and pump the fuel through it.
