I know this probably has been asked dozens of times but i've not found a the answer i'm looking for yet. So all that have done this please offer up your advice to me here. I've acquired a os .46 engine for my Venture 30. What modifications do you make to the engine if any and to the frame of the Heli in order for the Muffler not to hit the frame. I know I need to get the Ergo 46 engine and mount it upside down. So any advice on how to install this engine would be appreciated. The post i've found on this have been vague on the installations, but full of praises on what an improvement it made to the heli.

Hello to all who posted to my ?.

I think that my 46 upgrade is complete for now. What I had to do is as follows.

1) took the fan hub to a machine shop and had .125 removed where it interfaces with the drive nut on the motor. I also had a large couter sink put on the bottom so it would go slightly over the larger part of the crank. I also had to use low profile socket head cap screws for the fan to mount to the hub as the originals would rub the drive nut.

2) I removed with a file the serations on the drive nut. I filed it down to the inner flat surface (about .040")

3) Ground about 4 threads off the crankshaft so it wouldn't hit the starter shaft.

With these mods done the engine, fan, and clutch sit in the very bottom of the slots in the frame and the clutch doesn't hit the top of the clutch bell. The Maverick Muffler that I got for this combo just fits onto the flange of the motor.

Hope this is all thats needed. I probably should have just got the ergo fan and clutch and not have to do all the other mods.

I put a TT50/Maverick muffler in mine. It is the same size as the os 46/50. There is no interferance with engine/muffler/frame.

-Ergo 46 Aluminum mount
-Leave the drive washer off
-I used a washer between the fan hub and front bearing
-Drill the fan hub (mine was 5/16" half way, then 1/4" the rest)
-Cut about 1/4 inch off the crankshaft of engine
-Notch the frame set about 3/16" down to allow for proper alignment of clutch/clutch bell

Optional:
KSJ thrust bearings (longevity/slop removal)
Ergo long boom conversion (600mm blades/properly loads engine)
Dual boom support (Glow plug access)
Cooling shroud extension (Longevity)
KSJ aluminum flybar control arm (Longevity/slop removal)

FYI

Just for interest sake, HeliProz has just started advertising a 50 upgrade kit for the Venture 30 made by KSJ for $80.

KSJ1050 - Includes long boom, long belt, longer tail control rod, dual boom supports, new metal center hub, new head block, new larger dia. spindle, new phase ring, new flywheel hub to fit OS 50, aluminum motor mount , and hardware.

I may try installing it this winter. Anyone else tried it ?

By all means use the upgrade kit. The only reason I didn't is because I couldn't get a straight answer when it was going to be available. If I knew it was going to be this quick, I would of waited.

The kit includes everything (except blades) for a very reasonable price.

HeliProz upgrade kit?

Anyone have any pictures of the items in the upgrade kit? I don't know what a lot of the things listed in the HeliProz kit look like or are for? Pictures of these items sure would help me out.

I fly with helicrash333 and performed the same basic modifications to put the OS46 into the venture along with the thrust bearings and extended fan cooling shroud.
