Howdy...

Well, I needed some new servos today for an Ergo 30 CCPM, and I made an executive decision - I'M GOING WITH HI-TEC...

Understand, previously I have been a Futaba guy, with Futaba servos in all my planes and helis. I subscribed to the 'you get what you pay for' mentality.

But today, one of my Futaba 3001s died. It was only 1 month old, and it caused only minor damage, but still, Futaba is supposed to be 'paid for quality'.

So, I decided to open my mind, and OHMIGOSH! I can get Hi-Tec DIGITAL HI SPEED HI TORQUE servos for about what a fairly low-end Futaba 9202 cost. I picked up three today for the Ergo. They were under $60.00, and are programmable, digital servos with over 100oz of torque and under .17 sec. speed --- much better specs than the non-digital 9202 or the 9303, for that matter...

So, will I regret this decision? Will the one crash that these servos cause cost more than the price difference between the Hi-Tecs and the Futabas? Some say yes, some say no. That's why I had to find out for myself.

What do you say?

We can both test them. I have always had top end Futaba or Airtronics and I just stuck a Hitec 645MG in my collective. We'll see what happens.

I had a 3001 throttle servo die on me in a hover. Only damage was bent skid feet. Opened it up & found one of the motor terminal solders had cracked. Resoldered it & it's fine, but replaced with a spare 9204 that should be more reliable.

First off this just my opinion And I'll probably get flamed for it.

The 3001 is an entry level single bb non coreless servo. torque is around 41 oz. time is .22 these servo might be ok for a hawk or a raptor standard type control system and only for beginner/entry level flying, I would not use them for any type of aerobatics. Cost is around $22.00 ea.

For comparison a 9202 is a coreless motor DBB torque is 70 oz at .22. sec.

I may be mistaken but I believe a CCMP system requires a higher torque than a standard mix control system and they also require better holding which the 3001's have neither.

As far as the hi-tec's I'm scared of them I have a friend at the field that has had two (planes) go in one was a four star 120 and the other was a hanger 9 ultra stick. Both were outfitted with the Hi-Tec digital 100 oz's and both plans went in due to servo failures and that was two completely different sets of servos.

In closing, I don't think the 3001's where the right servo for you application, as far as what else you chose is up to you. I fly a Ego 46 Standard mix with 9202's and had no problems with servos.

No flames here... You have a good story...

I use 9202s in my Raptor 60, and so far so good...

The 3001s in my Ergo should have been enough, I believe. It's a small heli, with much weight in the head and rotors than a 60. Blades are only 550mm.

Also, with CCPM, I would think you would need less torque, as you have a minimum of 2 servos moving combined to move the head, and all three servos are combined to move the pitch.

Either way, this wasn't a torque issue, as I was just hovering when this happened. No aeros, or anything, and if Futaba = quality, this servo shouldn't have died. Keep in mind, also, that this servo came with Futaba's 9CH rado, a very hi-price radio.

The servo isn't stripped, it just doesn't run at all, so I think it's another broken-wire type of issue. We'll see...

Correct ben1000

Torque is not the main problem with CCPM but accurate positioning is. Any digital or good coreless servo will do the job on most any CCPM.
I'm using Futaba 9304's (got a deal on them) on a Raven and Hitec 5625's on my Fury.
Both fly great and I have MANY more hitecs in other heli's. 615MG, 625MG, 525's, and 925MG. All perform great and at a much cheaper cost than others.

DO NOT USE EXPERT SERVOS IN HELI they are bad, they cannot handle vibration

I have used hitec servos for years in Sailplanes and I grant you that there is quite a difference between that and Helicopters. The ENGINE and the vibration being a big factor. But I never had a problem with any servo and I always used a Hitec Rx without fail/problem.

I am using 5625 for my cyclic, 5945 for collective, and a non digital on throttle with the Futaba 9253 w/ 401 onthe tail and Hitec Rx.

I have always thought them to be a very good value. In almost ALL cases experiences vary, but my experience as well has those around me have been good with Hitec.

Now to replace the clutch liner in my Raptor

BRIAN!!!

You wore out a clutch liner in less than 2 weeks???!!!!!!

Something doesn't seem right on that. When you get the motor out, let me know what seems to have happened to the liner. Is it worn out or did it come loose? If the clutch is tring to grab all the time at low RPM it might be weekening already.

Thanks
