e-MS Composit Hornet > Berg 5 receiver trouble or not???

Ok, I'm using a Berg 5 DSP receiver and a GY401 gyro.
The rudder is not working (steady single blinking) 'no rudder signal detected'
channels listed in the manual for berg are

Pin6: Batt
Pin5: Tx channel 6
Pin4: Rudder
Pin3: Elevator
Pin2: Aileron
Pin1: Throttle

do I need to be running a proper 6ch rx for it to work, Is the Berg mini5 not going to work with the 401 because it skips ch5. Would this be GEAR?

Do I need/Can I use the "Channel Expander" from Berg???

HELP!

The 401 needs a channel to select from rate to hh. It will not work without this.

If you are working with a FP heli (4 channels needed) then the gyro will have ch 4 for rudder input and ch 6 (rx pins #5) for gyro selection. If you are flying CP then you need a 6 ch rx, or a gy240. The GY240 is basically the same gyro that has the selection and gain controls on the gyro.

Hi Walt, I Have a CP Hornet. I have pulled the case off of the 401 and shortened the wires. So I would hate to dump another $120 for another gyro. should I invest in the Berg channel expander ($30) or use a different receiver. What would you do?

By the way, I'm using a JR 10x Tx, can Ch6 be reassigned to the Gyro Sensitivity channel (Ch5)?

From what I have seen, the Berg channel expander would give you a solution to this problem, since it would give you all the channels that you would need. With the expander, you will get the channel needed for the gyro function in the 10X (7, I think?) or you can put it on channel 5 (gear) which you should also get with the expander.

Now for a question for you! Who have you seen that is selling the expanders? I have a couple of the Bergs from RC-Direct, but they don't list the expander in their online store.

Why didn't you opt for a standard 6CH receiver? A GWS would run you less than the channel expander. Hitec electron or other brands (FMA for example).
Anyway, you should assign the gain channel of the Tx to a knob and make sure it is only affected by that knob. Accidently changing from HH to rate in the middle of flight can result in a heart ache.

Yeah, your right, I probably should have gone with another 6ch Rx to save weight. I'll most likely end up doing that. thanks for the heads up on assigning the gain channel.... where in Israel are you located... I've been there a couple times.. I would like to see pics of your Hornet. Thought about posting some in your gallery?...

Jerryc,
For an immediate fix I would use the expander. I discussed the expander idea with Peter (Berg) some time ago when I was thinking of changing from the 240 to a 401 in the Hornet. I was trying to track down some tail wag problems and wanted to put the gyro gain on a slider for in flight adjustment.

He went ahead with the design but I have since solved the problem and decided to stay with the 240 until the 6 ch Berg is released.

Would you have any guesstimate as to when the 6 ch Berg might be released??

I am using the Berg with the channel expander with good results for my 401 and Hornet. Berg Rx feels more solid than my GWS 6 channels - and I have many of the latter.

I have two berg 5s one for JR and one for futaba

I use my berg 5 with my futaba 8U and it works flawlessly, and I use a berg 5 in a brushless lipoly float plane with a deans antenea inside with a JR 10 sx. I have never had any problems with the bergs were I have had planes demolished from interference with gws and jr R610M receivers. the berg is single conversion but it has a digital signal procesor that mimics PCM functions. there is a notorios spot at my feild and with the standard single conversion they get hit and go nuts but with the berg it feels like a deading of the controls for a moment. the surfaces all neutralize or hold or something, but its smooth. gotta love those bergs!! I know some people that swear by the bergs for every plane big or small.
