| Carl, I used Parma rc car paint (water based) on my original canopy and it works great when covered with a good clear... I have a "new" old style (my favorite) being painted now by someone else so I can't say what paint they are using... It will be painted on the outside and will be cleared... Actually I have 3 being painted now including a fiberglass one...
I don't like the new canopys as the "windscreen" layout is not very nice looking, IMO... I favor a sleeker, norrower, windscreen as opposed to the "bulbulous" look of the "new" style... That's why I bought the old style ones I could find... I just wish I could find a blue one...
