| I was shooting autos at my field(98% planes)Friday after work.Everybody was packed up so I tried for one last flight all to myself.Getting to walk into the field happens rarely.I shot a entire tank of nice autos with my Venture.-9 decents are my favorite auto to do,so I kept going higher and higher for longer free-fall times. The stragglers were egging me on,so I went for a monster auto. All went fine untill I made the turn to final auto start spot.It was getting really dark by then and when I turned I lost sight of the boom and tail totally.I had no idea what attitude I was in and lost it.This little spot in the air just started tumbleing and plummeting down and away from me.I went to 0 pitch and tried to get what it was doing.By the way it reacted I got a sense of what it was doing and pulled from knife-edge death spiral to a sideways recovery. This save was 20-30 feet high and way out there. Now I had to find which way this hovering blip on the horizon was going.I got lucky and turned back to the field. It took a while to get back and when it did,I shot one last auto right on the money. This heli is no doubt a" free heli"......I will never fly that late again,it should never have happened. My crash area was safe and unpopulated by people, animals, or property for those who wanted to flame me. |
