Computer Flight Simulators > G2 and Windows XP

For all you computer geeks like myself who needs to have the latest and greatest I just tested Real Flight G2 with the transmitter that came with it and surprisingly it all worked under Windows XP.

Key Points:
The first thing you need to do is install G2 or if you upgraded to G2 then install Real Flight Deluxe then G2. If you try to run it after the install it will most likely hang. Go to control panel > gameing options > then select the Real Flight trasmitter and calibrate it. You should then be able to start G2.

XP and G2

Almost all windows versions worked fine with the supplied transmitter, it was the Parrallel port Connector that was giving most people fits...
I also am Running XP Pro and am much happier with the performance of G2 under it.. and less problems with the LPT adapter and my transmitter... The supplied transmitter they give you works right of the Gameport.. so it is much easier to get it to work as Windows thinks its a joystick....

Yes

ColeopTer,

Yes, if you own W2000 now, in order to upgrade you have to purchase WinXP Professional. (At least so goes the rumour...) Of course, Professional is supposed to include a bunch of features not found on the Home version. And of course, it costs more

I love monopoly!

Yes Windows XP Professional is the Windows 2000 equivalent. It is basically the next version of Windows 2000, in fact Windows XP home and Professional both use the Win2K core.
I am running Windows XP Professional [in fact I beta tested it] it is GREAT the best OS Microsoft has ever made. It is very stable and user friendly. Windows XP home version is basically Windows XP Professional with a few features disabled. Click here for a comparison chart or click here for the full comparison.
I highly recommend Windows XP. Most people will probably not need all the features of Windows XP Professional and can get Windows XP home. Windows XP home costs about $100 for the upgrade version, Windows XP Professional is about $200 for the upgrade version, If you have a qualifying version of Windows [Windows 98/SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4, or Windows 2000 for Windows XP Professional and Windows 98/SE, or Windows ME for the home version] you want to make sure to get the upgrade version it is 100 dollars less then the full version. You do not need to have the previous version installed to use the upgrade version the Windows XP installer will ask you to insert the CD of the previous version to verify that you own it [it does NOT need any of the files off the CD the upgrade version CD has all the files it need that you need to install Windows XP] when you install Windows XP.
