i think we should make this into something. we could do all sorts of things, al has a good idea with the state farm insurance that is by far cheaper for coverage than ama, but i will still carry my ama insurance for the time when we wander to other flying fields.

we should get together and figure this thing out and see where it goes

Insurance

Insurance is insurance as long as the policy is written to cover exactly what you need...and that sometimes needs to be debated because of the legal jargon in the policy. I'd have to read the State farm policy before deciding.

An out of control 'copter flying into something or someone can cost the insurance company a bundle and they will most likely raise the ante just a tad afterwards. The electric slow flight guys at New Paltz that started the State Farm gig don't have nearly the same destructive power as the Heli's or Large Aircraft we fly.

I agree with SAR. For members that will be flying at events or other fields where the by-laws "require" AMA insurance, well...end of story. AMA or sit and watch. Therefore if we opt for a State Farm type of insurance, I will probably still have AMA as well. My "personal" preferance for having an insurance safety net and flexible flying opportunities.

State Farm Insurance? The cost of belonging to this club with State Farm and AMA will null out or even be cheaper when compared to belonging to other clubs. So screw it...lets get on with it!

380 motor

Hey, does Al have a 380 motor too? I didn't see that post. LOL! The motor is already in my field box Jon. I'll see you tomorrow.

About the insurance, we have a policy and it covers our liability if we have an accident. It doesn't say "only if it's a little electric", and we fly some big planky planks. Furthermore, there is a great deal of room for more pilots in our club under our insurance, so I hearby suggest that OUCH form as a sub group under MAPS. Sure if we have a huge claim the premium will go up. So lets not have an accident. But if we do, we are covered, AMA or not, in MAPS. I do, however, support anybodys right to join AMA and carry their insurance. If I ever get into the hobby big time and want to fly at other people's fields who require AMA, then I will worry about it.

Whoopee web site!

I checked it out. All I could get was the main page, but that was awesome! I wonder why the links wouldn't work for me?

Ack Rick, my bad sorry about that I knew someone mentioned a 380 I went to grab the one off my hummingbird and while yanking the gear off the motor shaft I pulled the motor shaft out of the motor :P

What's it take to get membership with the MAPS group? We fly down there and Rondout as well as some other places, obviously we'd like to not be just a bunch of free ride outlaw dudes at your field.

I don't know if OUCH should be a subset, I think it represents a lot of folks from around the area and I know a number of them stick down south in the Newburgh area. Some of you folks are familiar with Bill(The bill show), but there's quite a few others such as the heli guys at Hopewell. The idea I had with the website was just to create site where the heli guys from Orange/Ulster could share their photo's and contacts, even if we can't make it to the other fields all the time. With recent gas prices, running down to Newburgh really started getting expensive which is why I joined the Rondout Flyers(however long that lasts.. probably the first time I see a Db meter LOL) and hang out with the good folks in New Paltz.

Oh, and I only built the first page, I'll try to get more pages up in time

380 motor, MAPS,

NP Jon. I figured as much about the motor. It's still attached to some kind of dojobber, maybe an esc, not sure. You can tell me when you see it. If it can work for you it's yours.

As far as joining the MAPS, when I finally got around to it after about one and a half years after I started flying with them, it was a matter of giving "white truck" Al $20.00. But like I said, it took me a long time to get to that stage, and nobody rushed me or even blinked when I flew uninitiated, so don't feel pressured. The reason I suggested the "subset" thing with OUCH was simply the fact that there is room for plenty more MAPS members under the terms of the insurance policy, and unless the group REALLY grows, it seems like a good idea. Those other fellows may or may not want to join OUCH, but even if they do, for 20 bucks they come under the MAPS policy. I have to say tho, I am not sure if the MAPS policy is "field specific". I would think not, but I would check on that first before I sell it to guys.

I have not yet met The Bill Show, but I look forward to seeing him trim the lawn. That sounds impressive.

Finally, I'll say again, the web site that you made looks awesome. When you get around to building the other pages (If you do), I hope I can post some pics there. Meanwhile, I wait for "free upload Monday" so I can start a little gallery of my own with some of the snapshots I have on my box.

RICK! Thank you very much for the 380 motor, you made my day! It was great to have something flying this weekend!

Really sorry to see your Raptor go in Mike, but I know you'll have it back up and kicking air soon.

That was some pretty impressive hovering for essentially a first timer with no sim experience or anything Al. You did a great job building it and with Mike's fine tuning it looks really solid.

Lots of photo's from today guys, thanks for being so camera friendly (any photo's can be removed at request hehe). When I get the airborne video stuff from Mike I will recompress and put it online as well. The Zagi at least, and the heli if he wants it up.

On Any Sunday....

Well, another Sunday at new Paltz High School, and the flying was good. Thanks to the "Little Big man, Dustin Hoffman, oops! I mean Al, for getting my DuraPlane back to Earth safely and on its wheels. Someday I too hope to be able to land my own plane (right side up that is!)

I was able to keep my Nexus 30 right side up, although when I ran it up without the training gear attached I quickly chickened out and slapped on the "balls". That gear has been thru the mill tho. It is only a matter of time before I either stop using it or buy a new set. I put another 2 tankfuls thru the Nexus.

Al, the little big, is a natural pilot. His Raptor 50 is put together right and looking and flying sweet. I bet he'll be flying it 3D before I get good at forward flight in my Nexus.

I agree with Jon about Ed's Ultra stick plane. It is a beauty, and it flys great. Al took it up for what I believe was its 1st flight, and if it was a sailboat, it would be called "yar"-quick to respond to the stick and nimble. Too bad about the motor problem. Fortunately Al was able to "deadstick" it safely back to ground.

Jon, you are quite welcome for the motor. I am happy to see it in use, and I loved the way your Zagi flys! I checked out the photos. Excellent job, dude!

Welcome to Ben and Pete! Glad to have you come down. BTW, Ben, Pete has a NEXUS 30, just like me! LOL! Finally I'm not the only dude with the reviled Nexus anymore. If you guys really want to join the MAPS club, see white truck Al down at the field most any Sunday morning .

Wish I was off Monday, but it ain't happening. Hopefully, I'll see you guys next Sunday.

Sar, COOL!!! Neat pics on the web. Can't wait to see the video clips. I was too busy flyin to see the shots. Manzer....phew! That was a classic kit maker flight! The only thing missing on the video was the smoke that we saw after impact! Sorry to see it happen.

See y'all next weekend.
