War stories??? Or SCARE stories???.....Hehehe......even though it has been about 30 yrs. since I flew (???) my Schluter Heli~Baby I will NEVER forget the day I "almost" put it through the windshield of my van!!!.....

It was at about 8 ft. and the wind caught it and it turned "nose in" and came right at me & the van......that was when I had never heard of the term "nose in".......I ran for my life!! I still remember the "load" in my shorts!!! It was a darn good thing that heli was mostly aluminum.......it WAS a tough little bird............BTW, GI Joe survived just fine.........

First Heli

My First Heli was A Shuttle Z-TS. Eventually turned it into a Z-XX It was a great heli to learn on. Now i have the Lovely Caliber 30.

MANTIS

My first heli which didn't leave the best taste in my mouth was the non colective version of the Mantis. I purchased it from Tower in about 1981 or 1982 for about $200 I believe. (It's amazing what $200 in todays money will buy compared to then)

I was never able to make the linkages work well enough to even try firing it up; had a K&B .40 in it. Still have 85% of heli keep it in my shop near my newer helis to remind me of how far we have come

O.K. - Feb. 1976 bought a Schluter Helibaby from Dick Wheeler of SC Modeler in Elgin Illinois. Been flying them ever since - whodofthunk that I would be flying a turbine powered heli today!! BTW anyone know if Dick is still around?

'bout '79 or '80 got myself a Graupner Bell 47G. Was fixed pitch, HB 25 ( not to be confused with HP engines), all plastic construction. Flew it with a plank 4 channel radio, and NO gyro.
Got it into the hover a few times. Then along came Futabas first heli radio, gyro-the 153BB and first real model chopper, the Hirobo Falcon Mk1-preceeded the 505/555. Had a lot of good times!!!!!

What I can remember

Well my first helicopter was a hand me down from my dad in the name of a Baron 28 with a O.S. 28 engine and a old metal case MRC radio this lasted me about 30 seconds as it chased me across the back yard of the house. But growing up I remeber him having a Dubro Scorpian and a Schluter Cobra that to this day we still ahve the fuse and most of the remains of the scorpian.. After that 30 second incident I never touched a helicopter till 2000 when I got back into it almost 10 years later..

My first heli

Mine was a Kalt Cyclone that almost took off my arm when it idled up at full throttle! That was the worst heli experience I ever had!!! Then for some reason I picked up a Mantis heli that was even older then that!

Schluter Mini-Boy

My first was the Schluter Mini-Boy that actually belongs to my Brother and his son that they let me borrow so I could learn heli's. It came with an OS .45 (ringed) engine, old Kraft gyro, and an old JR heli radio that uses adjustable pots in the back for servo mixing. My Brother and his son bought it used and it has been used to teach at least 8 beginners over the past 10 years. My Brother said he rebuilt it several times after minor crashes. It has semi symetrical blades and is hard to hover out of ground effect on hot days.

I learned to hover with it and learned alot about heli's in the process. I still have it and plan on keeping it in an airworthy state. Should make a great conversation piece at the flying field.

I currently have a Kyosho Concept 30 SX that I bought used with an OS 32 SXH engine and older JR Gyro. I recently bought a new Airtronics radio (my first computer radio) that I just got installed and am in the process of setting up. I can hardly wait to fly it. Before the new radio I was using the old JR out of the Mini-Boy and was hovering without training gear. What a difference between the Concept and the Mini-Boy. Sure is fun to fly.

i just bought a kyosho caliber 30 with the os 32. this is my first heli but it is not my first flying unit. i have a airvista plane that i fly with a os 40la. just getting into the flying. i have been on ground for about 7 years. i have about 25 vehicles total including 3 boats. billions of parts.

My first

I had a shluter champion..Then I really learned to fly,I got 2 concept 30s..Flew the concepts for 6 years.Sold em on ebay 3 months ago..I had the champion in 95..lol..Hey it flew and I wish I still had it...

First Heli

First was a Concept 60,back in '90, Airtronics radio,O.S. 60 sx engine, My friend could hover it great but I could only crash again and again. finally got it though. Now I have a Schluter Champion as well.

My first, and only so far, is the rappy 30 V1, has served me well to this point, with what limited flight time I get. I like it alot.
