My first heli was a mini boy with a super tiger 46 motor and a Proline single stick radio.. Those of you that have had one of these know what I'm talking about... No gyros, no sub trims, no idle up, no servo reversing, no swash mixing, no mixing of any kind.... IT was fly or die......... I did go to an xcell 60 with an actual mechanical gyro idle up and throttle hold in the 80's.....

Tom..... No "D" flying....

World Engines "Garbo"

My first heli was a Garbo made by World Engines. I bought it in the early eighties. It had a fixed pitch rotor, no gyro. Don't think I even knew what a gyro was! It was powered by an os 40 fsr...Started it with a rubber belt that stayed around the engine pully/fan. The heli was not very well designed. It used a "Flat" belt for the tail rotor. No drive teeth. The belt would slip before you could run a tank out.

Radio was a 5 channel Futaba. Pretty elaborate for back then. After much, much practice, I was able to hover it for about 20 seconds before loosing control. That was about as long as I could keep it in the air. After about a year of hover/playing, I tried FFF and that was the demise of the heli! From what I can remember, it was totally uncontrollable!

Heli's and flying planks have been in my blood ever since. Just recently I got back into heli's. Now I have 7 of them! And I have to say, their much easier to fly than way back then!

P-Gasser Se, Raptor 50 Se Hyper, Raptor 30v2, Trex450se, 3dx450...

Wow, this is an old thread.. almost as old as the GMP cricket I started out with in the late 80's!

After miserable failure with that, I ponied up the money for a Kyosho concept in the early 90's. Learned to hover and could barely do forward flight with that.

A year or so later I got out of heli's and went back to planks until 2003. My wife then ressurected my interest by getting me a JR Venture 30 which I flew for a couple of years.

Went from there to a Raptor 50 Titan - and got interested in 3D.

Now I'm an Align guy with 2 600N's and a 450.

Oh, also had a BladeCP and an Airhog in there too, but they don't really count

~There are two kinds of heli pilots: those that have crashed, and those who are about to.

A nice 1986 Hirobo Shuttle with the OS28H heli engine...

Bought in HongKong when it came out...

It was a nice heli but crashed it on the first attempt to hover...

I (tried) to fly it with the Futaba 5NLH radio...at that time I was told that it was the first radio that separates the collective and the throttle with different channel, hence servo.

I bought an exact same one 3 months later..but never flew it until 1993...bought a hell of an upgrade a.k.a to make it the Shuttle ZX and never look back...
