LMH 100 with the cox .020 tee dee motor, learned basic flight and nose in hover, not very good at loops and rolls but they can be done!!

Graduated to one of the older shuttles with the enclosed tail box (POS)
but at least it had collective.

Concept 30 DX ARF

First attempt at heli flight was with a Concept DX in the early 90's. Gave up after replacing the clutch several times before it burned 1 complete tank of fuel!

First successful helicopter was a Hawk SE 2 years ago. The heading hold gyro made it posiible for me. Learned tail-in hovering and some forward flight. A galled counter gear caused it to glitch into the ground at high velocity. It was beyond FUBAR.

Kalt Baron 20 back in '83 with OS25FSR, Cox/Sanwa 4 ch radio and NO GYRO. After a couple of years of trying I bought a JR Century 7 heli radio and a Futaba gyro. This made it possible. My first sustained hover was for about 5 to 10 seconds at about 6 inches. I was so excited I couldn't sleep for two days. I still have this machine. The last time I flew it was about 4 years ago. It is so stable, you could put it in a hover, go for lunch and it would still be there when you got back.

First Heli

I started with a Raptor 30 V1 (end of 2002). with the traditional GY401/9253 setup, 8U airplane radio.

Been flying for 9 months and now working on Piro flips. I'm still a newbie to this but enjoying the heck out of it. This is without a doubt, the best side of the hobby to be in.

Nexus -- hovered three times, crashed three times -- very frustrating. Sold it. Got a Raptor 30 and Realflight... was in FF within a week, aerobatics a week after that... that was last October. Now I'm the proud owner of a Fury Extreme, and a Raptor 50V2 -- flyin' the crap out of the both of them, and lovin' every minute of it!! Just tried night flying for the first time a month or so ago... totally addicted!

My first heli was a rappy 30 about 18 months ago, didn't have a sim so it took me quite a while to learn to hover. Then got a nice Jet Ranger with Schluter mechanics as a project (only got the exhaust to sort out now), just upgraded the rappy 30 to a 50 and have also bought a nexus 30 to buddy up so I can help some people at the club.

Note: You really had to like Helicopters to fly this baby. It was more like a yo-yo than a helicopter. The O & R engine had a reed valve type induction system on it and it blew more fuel out of the modified carb for glow fuel use than was used to fly the helicopter. You used two crescent wrenches to adjust the pitch, and the blades (Ball Bats) were made out of some real heavy pine type wood. If I forgot any of the undocumented features of this flying machine please feel free to post. OH, by the way most of the pilots flying these babies had to send their engines to Bill Curtis in PA. to get them to run better. Later on Dubro came out with a conversion kit to allow installation of a 60 size airplane engine. The airplane engines had cooling problems and inventors/pilots adapted a "O' Ring driven computer cooling fan type blade mounted on a homemade heat-sink to attempt to cool that HOT 60 engine. I am not sure on the weight but they were REAL heavy.

Concept 30 SR-T

Its my first and current. Bought it complete, motor, mech gyro, 5ch radio partially assembelled last winter (even though it is ancient) for $250. My friend never finished it. It was a dust collector. I you feel sorry for me I'm accepting donations.

At least it tought me to fly and I haven't crashed it (four gallon so far).

Gonna buy a Hawk for Christmas!

I had a Heli-boy that never made it into the air. My first success was with a Nexus, that taught me to fly with no club or other modelers around.
