Please help me!!!! My 0.S 61 hasn't been running ,and i'm stumped now. It has about one gallon of cool power 30% run through it and i'm using a century speed torpedo muffler. When i start the engine it idles smooth but as soon as I take the glow plug driver off it dies .I tried using new glow plugs (o.s 8) new fuel line including the clunk line and I put all the neddle settings back to the factory starting point. I'm not sure what else to do.I never had a problem like this before .thanks

With it running at idle (with the glow connected) lean out the "low" (the straight slot in the center or the throttle arm/barrel) I'll bet it speeds up and will run wo the glow.

pinch test

I agree it may be too rich at idle and it kills the plug heat when left on its own.

Try the pinch test on the fuel line going into the carb (Pinch it hard enough to stop fuel from going into the motor). You should be able to hold it about 3 seconds and then the engine will start to die. much longer it is too rich and if it happens really quick you're way lean.

The factory starting point is pretty darn rich.

I just came in from working with this. I leaned the low end needle to one turn open, and still no luck . it acts as the glow plug is bad , but i am positive it is good .Could there be a factory flaw in the carb ? it never seemed to run right from new .

Carb

Maybe you have some crap in the carb. I've heard of some carbs having a metal shaving lodged in them causing fuel mixture problems from day one. The carb could possibly be defective.. but I think one turn on the idle might be too lean.

What kind of heli is it? The Raptor 60 has an L coming out of the fuel tank (main) and some were'nt drilled completely through causing a lean condition and the cure is to take it down and drill into each side to open up the L so fuel can get to the carb in the quantities needed.

Clint, if you can't find the problem, send that sucker back to OS or find a friend and swap the carbs for a test.

Remember the manual states that you should always take the idle needle 1/2 turn past the point where you want it and then pull it back 1/2 turn to the desired position. I don't know why they say that but that is in the manual.

I tried flushing the carb out and that had no luck either. It is in a raptor 60 , and i didn't know about the fuel nipple being to small . I'll try that and if that dosen't work its going back. How would i go about sending it back if I have to?? Thanks

My feeling is that it has to be a glow plug. How have you been checking the condition of the plug? Just because a plug glows with power applied doesn't mean that its still alright.
The element wire is coated with platium which reacts with the methonel during combustion, while the glow power simply heats up the wire to allow starting. You can still have the glow element with little or no platium left on the wire which will still glow orange with battery power. I would try a brand new plug, enya No3 or OS no8 are the glow plugs that i use. I like the Enya better as i belive it is more tolarant of a slightly lean run.
Remember it only takes 1 short lean run to kill a plug.
Hope you sort out your problems, as once you get the OS61WC going its one hell of a good engine.

I had the same problem you are having. Spent hours trying to figure it out. Problem was that the fuel tubing in the tank was a little to long causing the clunk to set against the tank and get inadequate fuel. You may want to check these lines in the tank, length of them, clunks, filters etc to make sure everything is right there. That is probably your problem if you are sure everything else is right.
