e-MS Composit Hornet > Derlin gears stripped

I have the white speed up derilin gears. I have 18:16 on the tail and after one use the 16 stripped. I noticed that the 16 had much smaller teeth than the 18 so it would take less to strip. They must have slid away from each other enough to skip causing the strip. Anyone have any experience using the 18 16 combination. I just ordered 4 black tail gears, 2 blacks are cheaper than 1 white so Ill just do the modification to the black gears.

In reference to the modifications, has anyone tried putting the black plastic in boiling water to strengthen the plastic. The matching of the high to low spots on the gears, how do you find the high or low spot, anyone have any particular techniques.

The black gears don't need to be boiled.

The latest run of MS gears are actually very good with almost "0" run out.

To find the high spot, if necessary, assemble them and rotate by hand. If the mesh (back lash) gets tight and loose as they rotate then shift one tooth and retry. there will be one point where the lash will be equal all the way around. Worst case is 18 tries. Once you find it, put a dot of white paint on the peak of one tooth and valley of the mating one so reassembly is easy.
