Man, I got away with one tonight. I had just installed my OS70 that I got back from Hobby Services (getting updated piston and sleeve), and I was hovering a few tanks to get started breaking it in. I was about 20 feet up doing some gentle hovering circles when the tail just let go out of the blue! It was piroetting madly as I dropped the collective and brought her in. Somehow I managed to give it just the enough corrections to save it unscathed! The carbon blade tips scuffed the grass lightly before I corrected and set it down gently on the skids - it was that close! The radio didn't go into failsafe, so I know it wasn't interference - then I remembered having trouble getting the servo extension to the tail rotor servo re-connected last night when I installed the engine - time to make a new extension and sure up that connection! Man, that was too close. Check those connections!

Check those connections!

Better yet , Check the whole Heli often, this is something we can't do too much for saftey and mech reliability.

I had a similar connection incident,
Just rerouted some wires because of chafing and the end plug in
rx had loosened the bat plug in flight, glitching and unexplaned
flameout.
I did'nt have enough slack and the plug slipped out, luckly I found it
when I stopped because my heli was trying to talk to me.
That's another good reason to have a shakedown flight after repairs
in case there's a prob, better than having a failure at event or a crowded flying site.

I'm glad to hear you and your ship are OK

I had a close one Sunday. I piroed around to practice nose in and my V2 started to descend. Well I dumb thumbed it and it came down right where the field meets the wheat. I took out some wheat and did not damage to the heli.

Lukily enough, the heli slowly descented and I had the presence of mind to chop the throttle when I started into the wheat.

I have found an easy way to keep connectors from comming out. Get a piece of 3/8 inch shrink tube and put it over the connector when you shrink it down it will not allow the extension connector to come out. Makes it hard for removal have to use a razor blade but saved my bacon a few times. I especially do this where the battery plugs into the switch.

rcheliflyer--If you're having chafing problems try www.cableorganizer.com they make great expandable sleeving. I've yet to see a better way to protect wires, just slide it on and slap a little heat shrink on the end, and unless you literally cut it with a knife or burn it, the sleeving isn't going anywhere, very tough stuff. I think Ricks started selling it recently, but there're a lot more choices at the above URL.

Someone around here, Indrid I think, has pictures of it on his machine...

"cable sleeving"

That sounds like a good idea, I might try some of that sleeving.
The chafing was on a Fury near the sharp frame edges, I rerouted
and used some velcro to isolate the wiring.

It works killer, and makes routing easy because once the wires are protected you can just strap 'em down with zip ties and not worry abour damage.

Cable Sleeve

I just started using that stuff and I agree, it is awesome. I usually just cable-tie the ends but I may try the heat shrink for a more professional look. It also is great on fuel tubing especially if you have carbon side frames.
