e-Electric Batteries & Chargers > What charger should I get?

Hello all,

I am looking for a charger to use for my brand new Logo 10.

Right now I am using Nicad (12 cells), but I may switch to NimH and even Li Po (thunder tiger). I would also like this charger to "follow" me along, ie to be able to charge batteries used in larger eHelis such as the Logo24 or the Joker.

So what charger should I get than can charge LiPos and large packs used in larger eHeli as I may get one of those birds some time

Thanks a bunch for the help!

Triton

I love my Triton. It will charge all of those types from 1 to 24 cells. I've converted a PC power supply so I can use AC power or, at the field, I have 3 options (car battery, field box battery, or portable battery pack used for jump starting the car).

I would Highly recommend the Schulze 6-330d charge, I fly the Logo to and bought one. It charges anything and is very informative as it does. I bought a couple of months ago and it had the 7.17 software in it. Schulze sent me an upgrade EPROM chip when it became available for free. Now I can charge almost any kind of cell. I purchased through Icare sailplanes.

If you really want to be prepared for your future be sure and get a charger that will do at least 32 cells which is what the Joker, Silence and new MinAir Ion will use...

The next Schulze up from the one listed above will be required for that... The Orbit Pro also does a good job on everything up to 32 cells...

Orbits

We sold Orbits...5 out of 25 blew up and it costs $120 of shipping charges to get them repaired. I 'd go to RC direct and get a Schulze if you need one better than a 6-330.

Thanks for the help guys!!

I'll most likely go for a high end Schulze or an Orbit then, need to check on prices and their difference

There is an Orbit repair center in the US... Dinn't know it cost so much to ship to Ohio...

There have been some problems with the Orbits, but generally by those that don't know how to read instructions... Mine has been super for over 1 1/2 years now... It could go away tomorrow and I would get another one...

that's good to know...

They had no repair center here when we sold them. That's good that they decided to add one in the states. As for people not reading the directions, that false in our situation. There was a design problem and the unit could not handle a large number of cells without burning out.

i made the mistake of buying a ISL6-330 when i bought my voy-e. all was well until i was bit by the joker bug, which CALLS for 32 cells.

even if you want to get by with 30 cells, which the 330 can do, the charge rate is too low (around 2.5 amps) to pack juice in the batteries nicely.

i now have the 6-636+. it's quite expensive ($370+/-), but is well worth the cost in my opinion. maybe the 430 would do as well, but you'd have to check.

of course if you don't give a hoot about Li-Pos, you can always get the astroflight 112D (up to 40 cells). however, you may find you hitting yourself a year or two from now when lipos are cheap and popular.

I love my Orbit Pro. I can charge my 12-cell 2400's in about 20 minutes.

Trition is my pick! ...not the German Schulze

For me the Triton was the way to go and it works great.
Especially with a built-in discharger. Not bad for $130.

Just remember how Germany stood by us in the current IRAQ war. Thats more then enough for me NOT TO BUY ANYTHING MADE IN GERMANY!

The Triton is a good charger if it's limitations will serve your needs...

For the larger helis/needs you will need an Orbit or Schulze...

Just remember to plan for the future and buy quality as the Orbit's and probably the Schulze are upgradeable with just a chip change for updates...
