Say "you've got to be Sh**ting me!"
Check the number again, very carefully
Say, "No fu**ing way!"
Check the number
Look around the room, see if anyone noticed you going ape****
Think of a good safe and secure place to hide the ticket
Hide it, but good, but before you hide it, check the number again.
Go to the bathroom and bring the Yellow Pages with you, 'cause your life just changed, and not necessarily for the better (though you could argue this point) and you need an attorney - get a good one, not one that advertises on TV for personal injury suits.
You have'nt told anyone else yet have you?
Call in sick
Told anyone else yet?
Go see your attorney. Find out how your name can be left confidential through a blind trust or other legal arrangement. Find out how to cash your ticket, without your name becoming public. Find out what you will get after tax. Find out what you can deposit in right now that is safe. FDIC is only good for a drop in the bucket of what you just won. certify your ticket with the lottery commission.
Tell your immediate family (wife and kids).
Go on a vacation to some warm, sunny spot.
Decide who to include as your extended family (beyond your parents who should be getting special treatment) and decide how much each should get. Make it generous, and make it clear that it is a onetime thing.
Decide which charities are worthy of a significant anonymous donations.
Move residences to your dream home. Pay someone to move your stuff.
Have a party for a few of your closest freinds (not 3,000 of your closest friends). Pay for everything, get them limos, etc. Sit down with each of them and work out with them what you could give them that will help them out... pay off a nagging credit card, house payment, fix their car, send them to college if they already wanted to go but could not. Be generous, but don't give everyone a new home, boat or cars.
Hope that the money doesn't change you.
Enjoy your new life where you don't worry about being able to GET money, but how to KEEP it and still be a good person. |
