Has anyone else had a problem with their receiver crystal coming loose? I was hovering the other day and my system locked up. (excell 60 graphite). KABOOM!!!!
I first thought it was a dead cell in my battery. I threw it away...and rebuilt. I was testing the rebuild without the blades and my system locked up....engine running at the same rpm as in a hover.....when I touched the receiver, I noticed the crystal hanging out the port!!!! I pushed it back in and everything returned to normal. I put a slight bend on the pin and reinserted it. I added a rubber band around the receiver to ensure that won't occur again. I was just wondering!!!

Yep, it happens!

Put a piece of scotch tape on the crystal - that should keep it in. Rubber band may slip off.

I always, always, always wrap a few layers of electrical tape around my recievers. Of course, I wrap it around them in such a way that the crystal is underneath the tape

I do it with airplanes, too. Never lost a crystal.

I also put a VERY slight bend in the pins as well as a small drop of silicone.....never had one come loose......... I started doing this after finding one "not fully seated"...just to be sure...

I wouldn't bend those leads, guys. You could make the internal structure weak and through age and vibrations, the actual crystal may break off.

I agree with Sharam. Put a piece of tape over it. Better yet, if your not planning on swapping crystals everytime the wind blows from a different direction, clean the top of the crystal and surrounding area of the receiver case with alcohol and put a dap of silicon on it. Not too much that you can't easily remove it if so desired at a later time.

I lost my infamous tag line.

Tape on Crystal

I have ued tape for the last two years but use normal see through tape so I can verify the frequency. Another thing I do is take a piece of dental floss and thread it through the servo wires so if by chance it comes loose the wires stay connected.

Gasser spit one out

went into failsafe @ 5-6 feet from a hover......settled nicely in the street.....the tough part was killing the engine....it was about 2 minutes into a fresh tank, and they run a LONG time.........

I use tape now
