Scale Model RC Helicopters > Route exhaust out of Fuselage?

How do most of you route the exhaust out of the fuse? Most of the exhaust extensions I've seen are too short to go fully out of the bottom of the fuselage with my setup. I was thinking of inserting a piece of 1/2" stainless tubing into the extension to lengthen it about an inch or so to get it out. Any ideas?

Thanks

Aerotrend makes several sizes of blue silicone tubing. This can be slipped over your exhaust outlet and secured with a tie wrap or two and then run outside of the fuse. Just try to keep the run straight. This tubing usually comes in at least a 12" to 18"section. Just make sure that you use at least the same inside diameter tubing as the O.D. of your exhaust outlet to keep the back pressure down. I have personally used a 10 inch piece of the Aerotrend tubing ( in a good bit larger diameter than the outlet) and have had no trouble with back pressure or overheating.

What I do is use a piece of the Aerotrend that fits the outlet snugly, and is about 1/2" wide, cut even with the end of the metal outlet to create a rubber collar on teh outlet tip. THEN I go up a size of tubing for the extension so it fits over the "collar" of the other shorter piece. That eliminates any chance of back pressure.

Member "Vario" (Joe Howard) has a really clean way of dealing with this situation. I'll bet he can send you some pics. No exhaust tubing going through the outside of the fuse, just a clean hole. Basically, he extends the fuse to the exhaust nipple rather than extending the nipple to the fuse. The end result is that you dont have a stupid looking rubber nipple sticking out of your heli
