Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > A few Raptor 50 questions

I am currently looking into turning my Raptor 30 into a 50 since shes seemed a little... shall we say lacking... after i got my Fury 80. Anyway I was wondering if you guys have run into any problems running an OS50 with your raptors. I know you have to cut the frames but besides that... I know some of the sceadu guys have been complaining about the 50 overheating - any of that with the raptor? Should I bother upgrading to the metal fan to increase airflow? What muffler are you guys using? Ive been running a weston on my OS32 and a hatori with my fury. I like both. Also looking at CY's Muscle Pipe - anyone tried that on the rappy50? Sorry so many questions by i wanna make sure I dont fall into the same problems that other guys have.
Thanks in advance,

I wouldn't discount the TT-50. It's a perfect fit without having to cut or grind and considerably cheaper than the OS50. I have had ZERO issues with mine. No lean spots, no rich spots, very consistant runs and gobs of power. Everyone that I have corresponded with loves it and have not had any problems either. It likes the needles open pretty wide though, 4 turns on each one to begin with and HATES a 46 size muffler. About the only issue I can think of at this time is that I'm not sure of the spare parts availability. When I got mine in December, there were no spare parts in stock although that may have changed by now.
I have just about a gallon through mine and have been running a 60 size Hatori muffy but will be switching to the MP once I pop the YS into my R60 and free up my MP.

I agree with Jeff, the TT50 should be a fine choice. I have a second R50 on the way, this one with the TT engine.

I have had no issues with my OS50. You don't really have to "cut" the frames to fit it in. A one mm relief is all that is required. It can be done so you will be the only one to know. The metal fan sure is pretty but not required. The only issues I have with the TT muffler is that without an extension it really oils down your helicopter and it's not a pipe.

Michigan: Care to trade decals? I have no intention of flying a pink helicopter, so it's staying "bleach bottle white" until I find something else or get tired of it and get out the metallic gold spraypaint. (can't you tell I'm such an artist!)

Tim: good luck on the upgrade, I think you will enjoy it. It's like having the power of a 60 without the increased cost of parts... sort of a best-of-both-worlds scenario. (Tim Allen - "More Power, Rrr-Rrr!") As for overheating, you can easily fabricate (or buy?) a plate to help duct air over the head if you run into any overheating issues. I'm not to the point of being able to overheat mine just yet...hehe.

You'll also enjoy the beefier TR grips, no cheap self-tapping plastic screws to back out on you. Boom-mounting the tail servo is highly recommended as well - that three foot long tail linkage with five slide points must have been designed late on a Friday afternoon.

I think I may have a set of stock Raptor 30 decals laying around. I'm comfortable flying a 'pink' aircraft (hehehehehe).
I don't now about that shade of pink but the most visible plank I ever had was a neon pink Sukhoi.

Raptor upgrade

I know exactly what you mean. After I bought a Raptor 60 then my R30 w/TT36 seemed very weak...

I bought the conversion kit and went with the OS46FXH, I don't know if I got lucky but I can tell you my motor runs great and has loads of power and no frame cutting for the carb.

I haven't had mixture problems on my engine, fact is, many people have a hard time getting the OS 50 running right. Just read some of the threads here.

It (the OS46) is alot cheaper than an OS 50 and still has better power to weight than my 60.

I like my R46 so much, I have taken the R60 down to make a scale heli out of it.

Just another opinion here. I think you can by the OS46 for the same or maybe less than the TT50. I just don't trust those TT motors like I do the OS.

Michigan: drop me an email then if you care to swap. I've got the full set of hot pink decals still sealed in the bag waiting for a use. The 50 is the same size fuselage as the 30 so no size issues.
