Hi

I have imported a small stock of these excellent light-weight e-switches that can be used for camera shutter control (or any other low-current remote switching application) - they can be used as a standard remote on off switch on a spare chanel or you can use a programable timer switching feature to overcome the auto-cut-off problem with many digital cameras.

If you are interested let me know.

Cheers,

Julian.

That's a yes, but it comes with a big IF. It's just a remote controlled switch, but if you are brave enough to locate the contacts connected to the mainswitch of any camera then you can use the e-switch to trigger it.

Some cameras are more friendly than others. Some offer an external triggering port so all you have to do is wire up a plug or solder on a connector (the Sony DSC series is not one of these) - the Canon EOS 650 on my gallery has 3 solder contacts under the grip which made that job easy - better still (at a cost) I could have bought an optional grip with an external trigger socket - but for the price I paid for the camera I was happy just to solder it.

Typically there is 3 contacts involved in camera triggering - a ground an alert state and a trigger state contact. Connect the alert contact to the ground and the camera wakes up (or stays awake) connect the trigger contact to the ground and the shutter fires. This is true of the Canon and the Sony DSC-P9.

With my Sony DSC-P9 I located some contacts in the PCB connector for the mainswitch and threaded some thin copper wire in before feeding this out on insulated wires to the ouside of the case.
It's a bit of a hack I admit, but the end result is very satisfying. Basically I can just plug the P9 into the RX (Via a pair of e-switches soldered into a 3-wire Futaba servo socket) and use it just like it was another RX accessory - very cool.

If you can't face the prospect of tinkering with the inside of yor Sony camera, I believe there is a remote switch accessory related to a little Sony Tripod. I've seen someone hack one of these to find the correct contats which obviously carries less risk.

Julian,

As you say, my new camera - Nikon 5400 uses three contacts. They have to be conected in a certain order.

IE. a-b, then a-b-c, then all disconected!

Please, can you tell me how to conect the switch?

Cheers,
Evan

ecranage,

Check this site out for triggering the Coolpix series:

Julian,

The new Canon Digital Rebel (6.3M) has the standard E3 port/trigger that I hope would work awesome with this switch.
How can I get one?

Cheers,
Jeff

ecrange, I hope Jeff's link will answer your question. All I can say is that my experience with the 650 indicates it's safe to experiment. I.E. ground yourself to the camera mount or anything metalic on the case then poke around connecting one pin to the next until you have it sussed.

AT YOUR RISK

Jeff go here:

I've got my cameras triggered using two switches so I have overall activation and a timer trigger. So when I hit the CH7 I get one shot if I switch off immediately, or I get shots every few seconds until I decide to switch it off again. Works well.

Cheers!
