Okay, u guys have all the fancy methods....
Why not mark out a designated length of which u know the distance etc etc etc...

That's exactly what I did, just measured the time from a video

At the end of the day helicopter forward speed will always be limited by retreating blade stall regardless of engine power. Yes you may find you bang into the advancing drag wall before the stall problem mainly due to small powerplant on RC. But you just need to look at helicopters like the BK-117 - big and ugly and ONE of the fastest helicopters because it has heaps of power but blade stall stops it.
The quickest and easiest way to increase fwd straightline speed is to reduce weight - fwd thrust is what you can steal from lift and keep it in the air, so the less thrust you need for lift the more tilt and thrust you can point fwd(ish)
i.e a 1gram helicopter with a 50 motor aint gonna use much of that power to keep it airborne - 89 deg tilt!!

Or just fit 2 ducted turbofans...mmm Trent 1000's will do nicely. You gotta check out these puppies - going on our new 7E7's. Standing in intake - head level with spinner.

Aah helicopters - I'm an aircraft engineer on them and I still just have to cross my fingers and hope somehow it flies after I fix them.

I have an video of Quickie EP10 (12 cells) e-heli flying around and indicating speed of 163km/h (more than 100mph). Here is the link (100MB file!):

I would have to agree with you there, rather harsh comment directed at someone asking a simple question. I know when I first cranked my Evo up to full speed (not that long ago) I was impressed and wondered what speed it was capable of.
If one thing is certain, there will always be someone out there that knows more about stuff than you do, so it sure doesn't hurt to ask - wisdom for free isn't ignorance.

Maybe YSRRider knows how to do a fan blade lube on a CF6 turbofan or maybe how to rig the AFRCU on an MB339CB....no...... must be pretty ignorant then!

Just a real shame people with attitudes like that don't keep it to themselves.
