I was in your shoes late last summer. What heli, radio, gyro, yadayada...

Well, after looking at EVERY option under the sun from Kalt Baron to X-Celll 30 I choose the Raptor 30. Why? Because how cheap it is to repair, parts are down the street, ease of repairs and maintenance, upgrades, local flyer knowledge of the bird, and more. For me it was the best choice at the time.

Now days I think Raptor is still the best choice for 30 size if money is a factor. If not, then go for the Sceadu 30. They are aweful close in repair costs but you put out a little more upfront for the Sceadu 30. If you want the Sceadu 50 then do the Sceadu 50 deal with the OS 50 and glass blades for $449 from CYBER HELI. Don't think you find a better price.

Here are my own personal buying preferences when it comes to helis. Maybe they will work for you:
1) DO NOT SKIMP ON THE RADIO AND GYRO!! (helis come and go but your radio is your long term friend! buy the absolute best you can!)
2) YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!! ( ex: if choosing between a servo that is slightly less in price and performance than another you will often find that the more expensive one has something about it that is of better quality or performance that isn't readily available info. like bearing count, gear type, current draw, centering ability, etc...)
3) FIND LOCAL FLYERS!!! (some of the best deals and equipment I have I bought/traded for new or used from other flyers. the local field is like the underground heli black market )
4) INVEST IN QUALITY TOOLS AND LITERATURE!! ( no, they don't make you fly better but good tools make repair and rebuilds much more enjoyable. Ray's Heli manual is with argument a must read. )
5) SEARCH THE WEB!! ( if i just walk down to my LHS and and say give me 3 of those and 2 of those I will really pay for it in the end. You need to research all buying decisions. Unless you have alot of disposable income of course. I might add that the heli retail game is primarily won on the web and the best prices are usually found there. Yeah, everyone says support your LHS but I have not heard one good reason yet as to why? It is a consumer market and the stongest survive. This distributor game is a bunch of bull. That is why we pay out the wazoo IMHO. You know, "middle man".

Ouch! I am sure that last one ruffled a few feathers but I really think the US RC industry is not playing with a global mindset. Alot of us are buying over seas because of this!

You might want to get your LHS to match HeliProz or Rick's prices as those are the US prices that are available.

The OS50 should be the choice of engine for the Sceadu 50, it will make it scream.

The problem with 6ch radios is not the number of channels but the other features they lack, such as 5 point pitch and throttle curves, digital trims, extra mixes and flight modes etc. The only 6ch worth looking at is the Airtronics RD6000 as it has the same set of features than the other 8ch ones yet at a much cheaper price. The other 6ch on the market are outdated and I would not recommend.

Note that the 2 piece muffler of the Sceadu 50 is not bad at all, I have no problems with mine. Also it has the DTDS driven tail that no other 50 offers on the market stock.
The thread called "newbie" has discussed these issues and features thoroughly, you really should read that thread!

If you are going to buy the Hawk, buy it with the OS32 as a package. You save money, and get a good engine. www.heli-world.com or
www.centuryheli.com

Yeah they gave me some bs price on the sceadu 50 and try to sell me a raptor when i'm leaning towards a century iv. I realize century helli put a reasonable msrp of 320 with os32 eng. I guess if i want to spend internet price i'm going for it. Now i can put the better equipement on my soon to be heil.

I'm considering the airtronic RD6000 super and 410 gyro with servo.

Thanks for all of your advice. I'll get back to you guys if i get the price that i wanted.

Don't know if it was a typo or not, but the gyro is a Futaba GY401. I noticed you wrote 410 in your post. Just making sure you don't look for the wrong thing. Good luck!!

Gixxer, what size are you riding? 600, 750, 1000, 1100?

Consider looking at www.helihut.com for your gyro, the GY401 with the 9253 servo. They will ship it for 217$. You don't get a US warranty on it, as helihut is not the US distributor, but it is worth looking at. Century/Heli-World currently has free shipping on the kit.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Started with a Ninja 250, FZR600, ZX-6, and now on an Intruder 800. Couldn't pay insurance on anything bigger for a sportbike. I also race a WR-400 in Hare Scrambles.

Thanks, John Cadwell

After a while i told the LHS to order the Raptor 30. That all most hobby shops carry so i gave in. As of now i think it'll be a good trainer because i can have access to parts fast if i crash and after i learned on the heili i'm move on towards something nice. Hopfully it'll come this week.
