I have noticed as of late that most of the folks that post in here are not always the best flyers. In fact I think some of these key veterans and elite veterans, just like to talk a mean game. This one guy a while back, had 3000 something post's, he replied to almost every post with "try the search function". Then I read his profile, he flys a raptor 30. So word to the wise, their status as key, elite, or grand poo ba really has nothing to do with their knowledge or skill as a pilot.
Guess I better get my umbrella out now, cause this will probally stir the pot real well.

I don't think it was supposed to reflect the amount of knowledge or flying skill a particular person had regarding helis ... at least I never looked at it that way as I have 500 posts of useless information that only I think is good stuff. Jeff.

I know some people who can fly rings around me at my club, funny how some of em cant even set a carb needle right tho....

some refer to them as cheque book modellers, if they took the time to learn they could save themself some setup fees...

You're kind of right, however a guy that can't fly his way out of a wet paper bag can still know a lot about setup of helicopters and engines. And as long as that guy with 3000 post and a Raptor in his pocket spouts good information then who cares what he fly's.

You can tell who is giving out good info and who isn't. You have to go by that and nothing else.

Just because we have raptor 30's doesn't mean we don't have skills either. There are some people with 60's and 90's that can't do half the stuff I do with my raptor 30.

it aint stupid pchuckie...

you made a valid point, I stick to the technical forums coz I can build and setup much better than I can fly, due to very similar reasons to fidman23... his gasser conversion looks real sweet...

been tuning two strokes for almost 20 years, but only had about 2 years flying helis...

I learn tech stuff fast as a listen to the right people and have an aptitude for it...

the flying is hand eye co-ordination and I am merely average at that stuff...

I am a stickler for a tight setup, if you can get that right it makes the learning process that much easier and I learn summat new everyday, often on these forums...

James, chill out man, he is not talking about you but, he is talking about ME. None of my posts are useful since none of us has grown up yet and I can't hover tail in upright for too long. I will get a phobia.
How is your flying lately.

puckie old boy! Some of the best flyers know very little about the mechanics they fly. Some of us that will never fly that good, have experience. Some of the newer people can save a lot of money and heartache, by listening to that experience. Watching Curtis fly, has never prevented MY helicopter from turfing. Some of us, that will never fly that good, are into the tweaking and the modifying, to keep our technical brains from falling asleep. The one I like the best is the guy who is flying a 91 powered wizzbang, and is asking for the needle settings.

You'll find this is the case in almost all forums, you become the 'guru' by how many post you have, not by actual knowledge. BTW, JP magazine just had an article about this issue, interesting read.

Actually its easy to tell from a post how much the person knows. You could know a lot but not have the cash to own more than a raptor. People seem to do the group thing where the more replies a post has the more likely that more people will continue to post.

Could i have used "more" any more times in that sentence?

What the status is all about how much time you spend on RR not at the field. I like talking about helis and give my two cents but it doesnt mean I know anymore than a guy with 1 post.

Post count is only a representation of participation in this forum and little else. There are people on here who have over one hundred posts who don't even own a heli (yet), but they are participating, asking questions and learning about the hobby. There are people here who have lot of posts who aren't great pilots, or aren't that great at setup or tuning, or don't have helicopter theory down pat, but that doesn't mean they aren't able to contribute what they do know. I have close to 900 posts and I'm just getting into 3D, and I'm not very good at it yet. But I read and absorb info like a sponge and I enjoy passing on what I know to those who don't. Some people are just here for the virtual comradery.

There are those here who spout off a bunch of useless crap, but it usually doesn't take long before 10 others correct them if their info is wrong. There are also those of us who've been around here for a while who have grown impatient with the same old questions that have been hashed out time and again ad nauseum, who might suggest that the search function be used in the interest of saving bandwidth.

The best thing you can do is relax, turn up the BS detector, and enjoy the immensely valuable resource that RunRyder is. In time you'll learn to spot the people who are full of it, and who aren't. Before you judge people's competency on post count, consider that Curtis Youngblood (HeliVIG) only put up TWO posts before the disbelievers scared him off.
