e-Mikado Logo 400 500 600 > Glitching all over the place :(

I have been flying my Logo 10 for a couple of months without any hint of radio glitches, but suddenly I'm experiencing quite a lot of glitching. Pretty much on all channels (the only reason it hasn't fallen out of the sky yet is my superb flying skills ). I'm using PPM (Hitec Eclipse 7 TX and Schulze a835 RX).

The only thing I have changed is the throttle curve which has been increased from 85% (I'm using a flat curve and constant RPM on the ESC) to 90%.

I am using a Mega AC22/30/3 motor (I know it's on the low-powered side, but I'm just learning to fly so I don't need any radical 3D power just yet) and a Schulze future 18.36 ESC. The ESC is set to "high rpm" and a switching frequency of 19 kHz (high). I am at the moment NOT using a ferrite ring on the ESC control lead.

My own theory is that this is the cause of the problem - the combination of increase in motor RPM, high switching frequency and the lack of a ferrite ring on the ESC control lead. Mikado mentions that if you are using a Kontronic Tango motor you MUST use a ferrite ring due to the high switching frequency.

Does this sound plausible?

I'm mounting a ferrite ring on the ESC control lead and trying to lower the throttle to 85% again, but I would like comments from all you clever people out there anyway.

Thanks,
Jens W.

Sorry that I am not refering to your question!!
I also want to put a mega 22/30/3 in my Logo10.
What pinion you use?
How about cells/Amps/Rpm ...?

Thank you.

I'm using a 16T pinion and 12 cells 3000 mAh NiMHs, which gives me about 9 minutes of hover.

However, I'm not really satisfied with the RPMs - there simple isn't enough power for my liking (and I am not doing any kind of 3D or wild flying yet), so I'm looking into buying a Hacker B50 13L or 15L instead.

And I think I solved my glitching problem by adding the ferrite ring to the ESC control lead

Hi Jens
Take a look at www.flyware.de
They have a new series of motors called MAX 650.
I think they have the right motor for Your Logo 10, and
much cheaper. About the glitches. Glad to hear that You
solved the problem; I still have a glitch now and then on
my Logo 16. I have ferrit rings "everywhere" but still there
is a problem. Change the gyro today from CSM400 to a
Futaba 401 to see if this helps.

Have you tried using PCM?

Switching Frequency

Jens,

You may want to look into this setting more. According to Mega, their motors are "very high" inductance motors and should be used with the lowest switching frequency the ESC offers.

I have the same motor in my Eco 8 and asked this very question of Mega. I have no idea if this would cause the problem you describe, but it is something to look into.

Good luck,
John

Solution: ferrite ring

Actually, the ESC was already set to 9 kHz.

But I solved the problem by mounting a ferrite ring on the control lead to the ESC (wrapping the wire four or five times around the ring) and that cleared away any hint of glitches and it's been flying perfectly ever since.

If you go with the Hacker, get the 13L for sure, don't get the 15L.

13L on a 13t pinion with 12 rc 2400's I get about 1700rpm headspeed which is pretty nice for sport flying. I'm not doing aerobatics quite yet though but I know this is enough for comfortable 3D flight, the climb out is nice. I would like to go up one or two teeth but don't want to sacrifice flight time just yet, I'm happy where it is now and the temps are great.
