| I have a lot of experience with this (ask Larry). My chopper has a special g23 with a G230 cyl that Larry built for me. It is VERY powerfull.
At first we were stripping gears on a regular basis. The mesh was set up with just a little slop. The problem is when things are set up this way, not much of the teath are meshing. The design of the gear and pinion allow things to feel tight when they are not. When you feel slop between the main gear and the pinion, it is too loose!
The only way I have found to get the teath to mesh, and have as much contact as possible, is to set them up with just a little drag. The gear will work in during the first flight.
Also, make sure the pinion is square with the main gear. If it is not, all of the gear will not be touching the pinion, and you will loose the main gear in short order.
A little white out correction tape on the main gear will help you see if things are meshing correctly.
Good luck! |
