Blades, Night Flying and Painting > Dupli-color on Fury Canopy wrinkled!!!

This is my second canopy painting expierience. Maybe my last. I have used the same brand for all.. I started with a primer, then white paint, then my colors. All looked great. Ready for the clear coat. Stuck with the same Dupli-color brand and WAMO.....wrinkle city after my first tack coat. I have at least 24 hours inbetween each coat, and then waited 3 days before attempting the clear. Looks like thousands of mini (probably 5mm long) wrinkles everywhere. I was THANKFULLY able to wet sand her with 600 this evening and am satisfied with the look, but I HAVE to get some kind of clear on to restore the shine my 600 grit removed. Any ideas? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

It seems that the Dupli-color paint solvents were not compatible with the primer coat. Also make sure that you wash the canopy in warm soapy water and rinse well first to wash off the mold release agent.

You probably need to start from scratch and make sure that the canopy is clean and roughened a bit with sandpaper, and your paints are all compatible.

I personaly use the Fastkolors by Parma. I put down a base of white, then the colors in about 1 hour intervals, let it dry for 2 to 3 days the shoot the whole thing with automotive Acrylic enamel clear. It is then bullet proof!

Hope this helps!

Primer

I have a feeling the primer was ok due to the fact all the colors took just fine. The problem only came about when I was putting on the final Dupli-color clear coat. Talk about making me sick. Considering taking it to a body shop and having the clear coat baked on. I wonder how much they are likely to charge me. hmm....
