Tools and Field Equipment > Caliper...How big do I need??

I am looking to finish off my tool kit (at least until I find something else I can't live without.) What size electronic caliper should I get. I have seen 6, 8 and 12" calipers out there, and was wondering just how big I need to go? Do you use your caliper to measure the distance to the CG of your blades, or just a metric ruler?

Thanks a ton!

Same as Tom

8 should do ya up. The 12 gets ungainly. Maybe a set of "frog legs" for those places you can't get the caliper ears into.

if I had to do it again, I'd also get the
8". Although, setting the paddles are the
only place I'd use the extra 2". I did
get a 12" engineering metal ruler
that has also has a metric scale and
that comes in very handy

If you can possibly swing it, the Mitutoyo
Digimatics are simply fantastic.

Frogs Legs???? Pls explain.

Frog Legs

a set of metal ID or OD "Y" calipers that do not have a dial on them, only a nut on the closed end to hold the position
