I was just wondering, if r/c boating would be fun to share with my 3 year old?Does anyone here have boats and what are they like?Maybe you guys could share some pictures of the machines you have.I scoping out some nice tunnel hulls and Hydros powered by G-23's.I bought a cool little tunnel hull (24") powered by a K&B 3.5 outboard and can't wait to get it in the water.

Boats are soooo much fun!!!!

I had a 46" Prather deep vee with a pro-modified Zenoah and it was pushing a little over 35 mph! That thing would fly! My friend had a cat from AeroMarine RC that was incredible, MUCH faster than mine!!!

Check out BH Hanson modified Zenoah engines and AeroMarine RC for all the needed accessories plus they have awesome boat hulls and then there are a couple of other places too on the internet that have a lot of good products. AeroMarine has some awesome complete packages that make it easy to have a complete boat that will blow everybody out of the water and they are really helpful. Stay away from Homelite engines and get a Zenoah with a clutch and water pump. You will lose a couple of mph's with the clutch but it makes it soooooo much easier starting it and also shutting it off because it lets you idle.

I actually just ordered a MIss Budweiser nitro that should be here by the end of next week. I will let you know how it goes. It is my "play" boat!

I would advise doing a lot of research. Boats are a lot of constant work and can be a headache if not cared for properly. Check out the forums at RCUniverse and you will find a ton of information in the boat section.

Good luck and let me know what you end up getting.

I know but....

I have a 3 year old and a newbie on the way. With work I have no time to fly and I figured it would be safer to get my 3 yr old to join in with me with a boat instead of a chopper.Choppers make me paranoid about having him around, I just worry about him when he is around me and the bird.Hmmmmmm, I want one of those sweet FG Miss Budweiser Tunnel Hulls complete with a G-23 and a squirel on a wake board!lol

All the same

It's all the same, you have to worry about them going near the water. I used to race boats (I had about 10 of them), but like anything else, the family gets bored really quickly.

If you want the little guy to drive, get a car to run on the grass, maybe a small electric buggy or something. My 4 yo gets a kick out of driving my RCI, but it only lasts about 15 minutes before he loses his attention span.

I had a bunch of tunnels, wish I kept my 3.5cc, it was alot of fun to chuck in the water and play around. I had the smaller Aeromarine Cat with an .82 in it, it did about 55-60, and was loud. Alot of fun, but you really need alot of room to run, preferrably far from civilization, otherwise you'll be losing the lake from the complaints. The gas boats are all the rage here in Long Island (Both Hydro and Deep Vee), the Hanson / Aeromarine is a good combination, but will set you back about a grand for everything.

It's really no different than flying, the faster boats do go out of control every once in a while, can hit land and go into the pits. Not nearly as dangerous as a heli or plane, but I have seen people get hit, and an outrigger dig itself so far into a tree (in the pits no less), that they had to leave part of the engine in the tree.

After flying helis, your going to get bored pretty quickly.

Boats

I have electric boats and they are great for the little ones to play with slow enough they dont get into trouble and slow enough to save if they do manage to get under log or some other immoveable object. With batteries today they will go a long time between charges. It is for there enjoyment isn't it? Try it you will like it.

Boating in and around Chicago.

Not real sure if it's still done in this particular spot. Been 20 years since I was there. But at one of the Forest Preserve ponds they used to run boats every weekend. It was real popular when I lived there.

The directions to get to it are simple. Take I-55 to LaGrange Rd. Heading toward LaGrange the pond is on the left after the forest preserve entrance.

With my luck, everything has changed... Another great source for getting info would be the LaGrange Hobby shop. They are right in the middle of La Grange on La Grange road. They have been there forever.

Jeff, you can have Safe cracker put a hook on top of the boat in case his boat died in the middle of the lake you can use your heli to drag it back with the skid.. just an idea.. you won't get wet..

Chicago is the windy city.....

get a little sailboat like an alpha or something, about the same cost as a 60-90 heli, but its a real boat and anyone can learn how to handle them. trailerable and quick to set up too.

Hey guys I said "MayBe"lol

Don't write me off yet for I would like to try this 3.5 before making a decision.I just did all that work to my X-Cell and I am sure it would get me a pretty boat but I will hang on to it until I make my decision. That K&B 3.5 looks soooooo coool can't wait until I fire it up in the bath tub!
