Location: Québec , Canada

i just finished building my gasser but im having problem with my 401gyro... when i am getting to hover i am loosing rudder completly ...
like if i unplug the servo ...until i go back to idle
i had change my batterie , my receiver , even tried a 240 gyro and a new 401 /9253 ,tried a new location for the gyro ,and it is doing the same thing ...

my heli is the intrepid with the new g-231 engine

anyone had this problem before or can help me

thanks

The heli spins on the ground? I'm sure you've checked, but to state the obvious: gyro operating in proper direction?

Have you tried a servo with a bit more torque? I think most people run something a little slower/stronger than a 9253 on those big gassers, or a gy601/9251

Couldn't hurt to try it.......

401 problem

not on the ground (i put it on a rotopod to try it now)... just as i start to hover ...
i have no rudder response at all untill the heli
land , then its ok... it seem to be just at a specific rpm

thanks

401

its start overing ok for few seconds then it start to spin on either side
and i have no control at all on the rudder...
i had a friend checking the rudder servo as it start to spin and he could
see that the servo was not moving...
i change the gyro and the servo ... and its still doing the same

thanks

Had the same problem!

I had the same problem with my Bergen, gyro would freeze up right after lift to hover and reaching an certain rpm. Untill I found out you can't use an FM RX with a gasser and I changed my base loaded antenae with a new one and re-mounted it facing the front into the canopy ...problem solved!!!

im using a jr z pcm receiver with a dean wip antenna in front...
i tried another receiver and still doing the same

do you think it could be the 401 who is getting some kind of
interference from the spark plug ?
anybody using a 401 in a gasser and a g231?

thanks

Had the exact same problem it sounds like

I had the same problem. Everything moved fine on a hover, but once I got to rpm, the thing would lock up on me. Actually it was really locking on one side.

My whole linkage was butter smooth. I replaced servos 9253's, gyros 401 and 502's, even the complete linkage.

The problem: the 9253 was just not strong enough during rpm to hold. only 23 ounces of torque or something like that.

Once I felt confident I was not hiding a serious problem in linkage, I put on a 9252 and a 8231 and it works flawlessly.

My personal suggestion, use a stronger servo. Even if the linkage is butter smooth, it's insurance to have a strong servo doing some pushing there on the tail.

good luck hunting

Upgraded tail servo push - pull?

If your using the Push/Pull tail servo upgrade try using a stronger servo. I went with a Futaba 9205 servo ... Make sure you switch the Gy401 to standard servo! This combo works great ... I had the same problem as you but, Now it's as smooth as silk!

A few things to look at:

Are your thrust bearings in the blades grips the right way? The two races on the thrust bearings have different inside diameters. The smaller one NEEDS to be on the outside. If they are reversed, they will work fine until they get a load, then they will lock up. This sounds like what is happenning to you.

Check for binding in the linkages, as stated above.

Use a short arm on the servo. This will give the weak but fast servo better mechanical advantage.

Keep the pitch slider and the blade grip links oiled.

Let us know what you find,

WOW !! MALORIE !!

So ...... Malorie, tell me ...... How many things on this helo have you put together wrong to know this?
I always use my calipers when putting things together .......... I had a Prob with the Pull/Pull being a little stiff ....

The Prob was the Links were not the same length! ......

Maybe I should learn how to use my Calipers !!!

Funny thing about tools, they only help when you know how to use them.

I have probably done everything wrong at one time or another, not just with the helicopter either.
