| Well first I guess I better introduce myself... I've always been into R/C models of some sort, mostly Nitro Off-Road buggies etc... but never the helis'. Finally grew the balls to spend some $1400 odd dollars on a heli and get into the hobby.
What I bought was a Sceadu .30, OS .32SX-H, Fut GY-401, Fut 9CHP set-up.
After building the kit and realizing the Center Hub was machined incorrectly at Hirobo, I got it ready to fly. The pitch is set to -4,+5,+11 right now with a smooth curve. The throttle curve is smooth from the idle at about 20% up to 100% at wide open.
Throttle-Cut is all set up etc... so I took it out to the field behind my house with my training gear on.
First flight I put a tank of gas through it and made some trim adjustments to make it not want to roll over on take off. It is still a tad bit tail heavy and I don't quite know the best solution to that. Move the gyro up front maybe? (The batt is all the way forward already).
Took the rest of the day off to think of ways to fly better etc... and went back out the next day.
I was able to take off and somewhat hover for a few seconds. For some reason the only way I can make it hover is to make VERY quick, VERY small taps to the cyclic. It seems the servos are so strong that when i fly it like this the whole heli just jerks around under the perfectly hovering blade disc.
Are there any adjustments that need to be made to the cyclic controls regarding sensitivity etc...?
I practiced a few more hovers and ended up all over the place and ultimately ended up crash landing into the grassy hill. I lucked out and the training gear saved me from de-blading the machine on the hill and it just slid down the hill on the training gear. I called it a day after that.
Anyone have some good tips/tricks on where I should go from here? I know I have great hand/eye coordination, do I just need to spend more time behind the wheel? Or am I missing something that could be making the machine hard to fly?
Thanks a TON and I love this hobby already. |
