Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Fury Head Block Problem

Did anyone have a problem getting the dowel pin into the head block. On mine, the pin goes through the head block into the main shaft but it WILL NOT go on through. I tried it both directions and I even tore down the whole thing and turned the main shaft around and had the same problem. The dowel on the retaining collar slid right in on both ends of the main shaft. I assume the holes on the head block should be perfectly centered, the small hole on mine is off by maybe 1/3 mm.

David,
The manual says to use a .120in. (3.0-3.1mm or #31) bit on the retaining collar to remove any burrs. It did not mention using a drill bit on the head block. I spent most of yesterday trying to find a 3mm drill bit and had no luck in all of Austin. A 1/8in bit is .125 which was too large and a 7/64in. is .109 which was too small. There are no burrs in the head block, when it is off the main shaft the dowell drops all the way in the head block without being touched, it also slides right through the main shaft. I think they drilled the head block off by about 1/3mm which is enough to not allow the dowell to go through. Here is a pic of the head block, quality is not too good as I used my daughters little digital camera.

Drill bit

Go to sears or anyplace like that..Home Depot, etc. and get you their "Number Drill" set. I think it's like 30 bucks and YES you will use it more than you think and NOT just for the #31 bit. I've had mine for about 8 years and can't tell you how many times I've needed a special drill size and was able to find it in the kit. Now that I got the "Drill Doctor" for Christmas, I'm really in business Or...go the cheap route and just buy the number bit that you need. I had the same problem, but drilled it a couple of times and made sure that I removed any burrs and it worked fine.

My dowel didn't go through either. I rotated the main shaft and tried it. The dowel went right in.

I had this problem, DavidH had mentioned to me to use a 1/8" drill bit. I did and it worked great, pin slid right in.

Drilling

Swashead, drill the main shaft, not the head block. 1/8 inch works OK.

On a dog sled team, if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.

Thanks everyone, I was going to use a metric bit on the head block, sounds like I should use the 1/8in on the shaft. I will try that tonight.
