| I knew things were going too good lately! I finally got the Rap 60 out yesterday after a few weeks of rain, and other things that kept me grounded. Flew great, as always, then the tail went out. I havent found out yet if it was the gears, TT, or what. Luckilly I was high enough to have time to hit throttle hold, and get it into an auto. Unfortunately, without the tail I couldn't steer it. Here's a question for you: If you fly in a 15 acre open field, and there is ONE big oak tree almost in the middle of it, where will your heli want to crash land? Yep, it went into the tree. I saw it dissapear into the tree, and heard it banging around in there for a few seconds, then quiet. I shut the radio off, (put the rx into failsafe), and walked to the tree. The Rap was stuck in it about half way up, still idling. I had to get a leg up to get into the tree, and rescue the sad looking bird.
Surprisingly, not too much damage! Blades, tail boom, torque tube, 1 landing strut, and flybar. I havent taken it apart to see if the feathering shaft or main shaft are bent. Oh yea, also the tail gears, (you can't even TALK about crashing a rap 60 without breaking those sh**ty tail gears!)
So, it looks like it's a good time for a spring cleaning/ checkup! I'll let you know what the cause of the failure was, if I can find it. I'll also post pics if I can get to it today.
Stay out of trees!
