Dave, to the right on the LH rotation means, as you know, it's a throw and not gyro issue as you said. That's the 'fight the torque' direction. Head speed and gear ratio can change that. What gear ratio does this machine run?

Ratio

Mike,

The tail rotor is running 8 to 1. I have the head speed at 1400 rpm. That puts the tail rotor at 11,200 rpm. I am a little spooked at going any higher on the head speed and I am not to shure that a ratio change would be of benifit. The tail is at warp speed now....

Besides she sure looks nice sittin' in the shop.....

Dave,

Would you be willing to make another set of the retracts? I can't wait to see this heli at the Vegas Funfly!

Each day the weather gets worse here and makes me take one more step closer to starting a scale project...

Retracts

Mike,

Perhaps....what machine are you doing? We should talk when you come down to Vegas.

Oh Mike!

Just remember you can't FLOG one of those around in the sky like your FREYA.

Dave,

I can only say WOW. I was a Coastie stationed at an Airsta and that is the most realistic 65 I have seen yet. I can't wait to see it in Vegas.

See ya in Vegas

Jason, It's also a little hard to do 3D in the rain!

Dave, It would be on a Hirobo Dauphin. I contemplated doing a smaller scale project for my first time, but Jeff G talked me into the Dauphin. I'm not worried about the mechanical aspects, just the finish work. I will definitely NOT paint it myself. I'll leave that to the experts. Did you use any of the vario add ons? Is the Hirobo kit the same scale as the Vario version? I saw both at the last LA funfly and it seemed like the vario might have been a tad bigger???

I've been reading anything I can get my hands on about doing scale helis... I always knew I would want to do them eventually, but this Seattle weather is forcing me indoors far too much this winter.

I've been to quite a few funflys in the past two years and haven't seen a whole lot of scale helis... They're all over the internet, but I never see them at the events. And when I do, they're not being flown much. I can see how it would be a whole lot tougher to travel with a scale heli...I can put two Freya's in my plastic golf case in a few mintues and I'm off.

Yes in triplicate on the rain!

Yeah I am tired of this also. Itching to fly.

Dave,

What did you use to make your water transfers? I would like to make some myself. I have seen some e-bay ads for a paper to put in your inkjet printer. Does that work?
Also I have maybe a dumb question to ask, but here goes. Couldn't you use a piece of rubber tubing to extend the exhaust up and out of the scale turbine exhausts? Does this cause problems with the engine? I have always wanted to ask someone that does scale that question.

Mike,

Next time you talk to Jeff G. put the good word in for me....

The Vario unit is bigger than the Hirobo unit. All I used from Vario was the cockpit control set. Everything else on my machine is hand made. The down side on the Hirobo is that the bulk heads are installed for you so making additional door openings requires you to move bulkheads, a real pain. The up side is that the bulk heads are installed for you! You know right from the get go that the wood is in the right place. So if you plan on adding additional doors it will be some work (but not impossible) if not you are good to go.

********************************************************************************

Jason,

I used the water transfer paper that I purchased here : http://store.yahoo.com/mcgpaper/index.html and it works fine. Call them and they will line you out on the details.

Yes you could route the exhaust out the scale exhaust ducts. But, if you are going to be using a glow engine you are going to have a mess all over the side of your machine. As they are hard enough to keep clean that would not be my first choice.

Thanks for the info

Dave,

Thanks for the info those decal sheets are just what I was looking for.
As for the exhaust I never thought about the mess. Guess that explains why it is not done more often.
By the way I resized those shots of your Dauphin for desktops it looks so good!

Have you thought about making the resuce hoist work using the vairo winch? Could even braze up a basket to hang off of it. Just fuel to the fire for down the road.
