| Paul,
Sorry I wasn't there for you. Perhaps you're right. Maybe we should stick to lumber.
You made your post at 11:30am on Friday. Nathan wasn't there and I wasn't there. I was suppose to have been in Maryland at the MHA funfly and Nathan was off. Much to my dismay, I had to cancel my trip because of weather delays and ended up staying in town.
I'd like to explain to you why we aren't open on Saturday and Sunday, and try to explain why Nathan and I "take Friday's off."
Saturday and Sunday are pretty easy. That's the weekend. You're suppose to be flying on the weekend. We try our best not to mess up anyone's else's weekend and we sure aren't going to mess up ours. UPS doesn't pick up on weekends anyway. Obviously, if we were in this only for the money, we'd be open 24/7/365. Of course if we were only in business for the money, we'd be in another business.
Friday was always a slow day from the beginning. Most guys don't call because they already have all their stuff and are too busy putting the finishing touches on their models for the weekend. A couple years ago, we decided that we would cover the phones from 10am until 8pm Monday through Thursday. This would give the guys on the West Coast a chance to call after they get home from work. Nathan and I split the chores. He's here until 8 on Mondays and Wednesdays, I'm here until 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Often times, especially in the summer, we leave town on Thursday afternoon and head for a funfly. During those times, the web store is still there taking orders. These orders are filled just like they would be if Nathan and I were here. If the crew has any questions, they all have my cell phone number.
When you called on Friday morning, I'm sure if you would have said something like "Is there any way you could have Ron call me? I have an urgent question and I need his help...and if I don't get to talk to him I'm going to post on RunRyder that you guys suck." I'm sure they would have called me and given me your number. Actually they would have done that without the threat of suckage, but it might have sped things along.
I need to cut this short. It's 6:10 AM and I have to get to the shop and order parts. Oh yes, I am there sometimes outside the posted hours...just in case you're thinking I only work 36 hours a week. I would guess I work about 60 hours a week on average and Nathan probably puts in about 45-50. You see, I also have a lumber business to manage.
Thanks for trying,
Ron |
