I tore my O.S. .32 apart 'cause I cracked the case. Now how do i get the piston back in the sleeve?

You will have to put it from the bottom of the sleeve. There should be a taper at the bottom to help compress the ring as it slides in.

Yea, the bottom is tapered, and I was thinkin' I should be able to get it in that way, but I cant. It won't go.

That's the way it has to go. Try and do what you have to to compress the ring as your trying to start the piston in the sleeve.

piston

Make sure that the piston ring is NOT overlapping the piston pin that holds the ring in place. I take a pencil and mark the location of the pin on top of the piston so I can make sure the ends of the ring are on either side of the pin. Also, I oil up the ring and ring groove, and the sleeve walls to help. Sometimes it can be a pain, but Take Your Time and be patient. It'll go, just may take a little while. Don't force anything. When you got it square to the sleeve and as mentioned above, it'll go.

another method......... try to put it in from the top except put a hose clamp around the ring and snug the hose clamp up just enough to compress the ring (flush with the bottom edge) and insert the piston untill its sitting on the hose clamp...........tap lightly with the wooden end of a hammer on the head of the piston to slide the piston and ring in while the ring is compressed. This is how we have done it on racing engines (V8 drag racing motors) when we were in a pinch........we broke our ring compressor tool......... just be delicate in the procedure! Wes

OK, found my problem!

There is a pin sticking out in the ring grove to keep the ring from spinning. Important to align that with the split in the ring.

I feel foolish now. At least my engine is together though.

Thanks
