How many people use them?
I'd like to keep the antenna under the canopy, but it just seems kind of screwy to me, like the rx's were designed to have that long of a wire.

How much useable range do they give up? It's not like I'm flying a half-mile away or anything, but if it's going to cause glitching then it's not worth the trouble.

Who makes the best one?

Hello

I am not sure as to what range you lose with a base loaded antenna, but just installed one on my Raptor 30 and seem to have no problems.

I also like the look it gives my chopper.

I heard you had to cut the arial wire if you wanted to use a base loaded antenna?

Have you tried rooting it throught your heli?
I use a thin clear tubing bought from my LHS and root it from the Rx, through the skids and attach it to my boom supports, it looks good and it's cheap to buy as well.

Sometimes it is better to ask the question or questions again as you get newer and "better" answers than just doing a search on it. I have used base loaded ant. for years with no problems at all. Yes you have to cut your ant. wire as per directions...I use Revolution's but I am sure that there are other good ones out there also..And....it hasn't been talked to death because as you see....it is still "Alive".....

If all these subjects are beat like a dead horse, we wouldn't have anything to post about day in and day out. But I guess since you have either been around forever, or have nothing better to do than post to any and everything I guess your the expert. Since you know everything thats been talked about, why don't you just skip over the post and go add your usefull insight somewhere elese.
Folks come and go to this forum all the time, ya think maybe just maybe someone new may come along and shed new light on the subject. I guess that's not possible.
Or I guess all us new guys to the forum should spend the next 6 weeks going through all the archives.
Moral of my story, if you don't have anything to say constructive, then just pass it up till you come to a post that you could. Otherwise Yahoo has some boards you could yammer on all day.

z11355, your posts seem very negative. Are you having a bad day or week?

conversely, then couldn't you say
that since people come and go that
the answers you get now may not be
as good, accurate and complete as some previous
answers from people long gone.

My position is that one of the greatest (if not THE GREATEST)
things mankind has created and lifts him out of the slime is written
language and w/ that, the ability to
create recallable knowledge and history.

If someone doesn't want to take
advantage of that, so be it.

Actually, I'm having a really good day
(drgn2115 will note that the world is
spinning correctly). They're rarely
meant to be negative. In this case,
a quick 15 second search would yield
a the information this person desires
on whip antennas and which one is the
best. Isn't that the goal vs. having a
conversation that drags on and on?
No doubt a conversation WOULD ensue
but maybe he wants to get a good
answer quickly. Well, it's already been
done and all he has to do is press
'search' and enter 'whip antenna'.
Pretty easy and it yields the right answer.

Well it could be less usefull information, or maybe better info. It's kind of like opening a fortune cookie, you never know what its gonna say. So once again, if you don't have anything to say constuctive just keep truckin to the next post.

thanks for your concern.

I'll take your advice about as well
as the recipients of the grammer
patrol take theirs and promptly file it
in the /dev/null basket.

move on, nothing to see here.

My thought would be to do both, that is what I would do. I have been around ole RunRyder long enough to know that new people with new and sometimes better ideas come along from time to time. I want to "tap" into their "heli brains too!"

All I want to know is whether base loaded's are more susceptible to interference than standard antennas. I didn't really feel like leafing through a bunch of old posts and I'm not trying to start a discussion. I just want a quick answer. But on the other hand I don't really care (or I would have searched) so if this thread bothers you that much I'll just leave it alone......

inventory, I use a base loaded ant. and the guys I fly with do also. We have done so for years and to my knowledge none of us have even had a hint of them being any kind of problem other than having to replace them every once in awhile due to just plain ole wear and tear.

I fly five helis and I have a Dean's whip in four of them. (I have them in my Logo 10 electric, Cuatro, FuryExtreme, and Nexus)

In about 1.5 years and many flights, (100+) I have never had any trouble or glitches with any of them.

Make sure you do a range check and follow the directions that come with the antenna and you should be fine. Range check is very important. Place the transmitter down and carry the heli. Try different orientations when walking away. PPM system will cause the servos to flutter and PCM will cause fail-safe, assuming programmed.

Good luck.

there's no way you'll fly out of range with a properly functioning whip antenna and still be able to see your helicopter, meaning you'll lose sight of it long before it's out of radio range. as for cuting the rx wire, i personally don't like the look of a long swizzle stick trailing a bent wire along the boom or behind the skids. with all the other investments of canopy and fin painting, not to mention the kit itself, why settle for an eyesore antenna wire when 10 bucks gets rid of it?

Gold plug or solder?

Hey I asked this question before so please forgive me, I guess. I use the Deans ant. ,but I do not use the gold plug that comes with the ant. I solder the Dean ant. to the Rx wire and use heat shrink to cover it. The reason I do this is so I don't have to worry about the gold plug becoming unplugged. Does anyone else out there do the same? Thanks for your time.

I use the Revolution antenna on a Freya, and a R70, and have had 0 problems, they work great. I always solder the supplied connector to the Rx wire just to prevent it from coming unplugged as said b4. Get it, you will like it. Daz....
