Crashed? Discussion and Photos > DO NOT fly helis in your backyard.

I just happened to be stupid enough not to listen to this piece of advise.

Converted my Vigor CS to 140 CCPM from 120. 5 flights into the new configuration and I messed up on a stationary roll. Gave it too much negative pitch too early. I tried to recover it but did not have enough room. It came toward the house and glanced it. Then it hit the ground and beat itself to death until the clutch was blown apart and the engine destroyed itself.

The result: 2 broken windows on the house $500
a set of MAH 700 blades - $140
OS 70 - $250
damage to the Vigor CS - $200

Another words: DO NOT FLY HELIS NEAR HOMES. You never know where its going to go if something happens.

Anyone want to make a donation to the Fix My House Fund?

So you were doing flips in your backyard????

We should start collecting stories like this and give an award at the end of each year.

Actually, I can feel a new addition to my website coming on...

OUCH!!!!...... I learned to hover in my backyard..(80' X 100' ) with a few small trees, I thought it made me learn to hover better....with those few obsticles......but I don't think I would try 3-D in a small space like that.... Even IF I knew how to....which of coarse I DON'T.......

Secret Squirrel, I live on a hill, so I got tons of open space to fly. My mistake was to recover toward me, instead of away from me, and since the house is behind me, it got in the way. I almost had it back all I needed was half a meter to the left.

when i have changed something on my heli (or a new one), i like to hover in my backyard to check if it is ok rather than taking the heli at the field and then see that i cannot fly all afternoon

i'll take the risk

Sorry about the crunch-up, we all go through it.

I've been flying helis in my back yard for years. In fact that's where I learnt how to fly. Just use common sense, know your limitations and try to prepare for the inevitable mechanical/electrical failure.

never put an unmovable or unjumpoverable object behind you
where it blocks your escape.
