i saw this rotor head (blue with PMP on the top) for the piccolo pro sold at helihobby.com.
the description says - "The head is fixed and will not pop off in a crash" - But shouldnt it pop off in a crash????
It seems to me that ikarus planed it to pop - the energy has to go somewhere- if it pops it waste the energy - if it doesnt - it absorbs the energy and will brake something else if not the head itself...
so do u really need those shiny mods??
please correct me if im wrong.

You are absolutely correct........There are many "mods" out there that add absolutly nothing to the flight performance of a heli and can cause more problems than what is claimed to "repair"

I am talking "mods in general", not this aluminum head you're asking about as I have no experience with it......

But I do have a lot of experience with helicopters in general.......

The utility in this upgrade lies in the fact that it helps with high speed blade flutter encountered by those of us that are running BL powered Pro's at 2200+ rpm. The stock head has had a nasty habit of flexing at these speeds and even disentegrating in some cases. The blue finish is kewl, but the functionality is even more beautiful. Warren at PMP (http://www.precisionmodelproducts.com/) does fine work designing and manufacturing these and other wonders for our Micros.

PMP Head

Yeah, I totally agree what the other guys said. To add, if you go to the Ikarus BBS you can hear (see) some horror stories of crashes because of the head exploding in high head speed flight or just even popping off during highly aerobatic and high head speed maneuvers. The PMP is well worth the money if you can make the initial investment and when you consider how many times you will have to replace the stock Cp head because of wear or damage. You should consider purchasing one for your CP. I understood what you were saying above and it is very true, but I don't think anybody doing strong aerobatic manuevers, flips, flying inverted, etc. would crash too often (though it does happen even to some of the greatest). One word of advice before you buy the head though, know how to fly because you will cause damage to other parts of the head when you crash with the PMP on because it doent pop off so as you said the energy goes to another part and breaks it. Then you will have to buy all aluminum parts for your rotor head etc. LOL Hope this helps
