Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Which X-Cell ?

Hi. I am looking to buy a second heli. I have a R30 which i bought to see if I like helis and to teach me to fly one. Since I first flew my R30, (4 months ago) I have had no desire to fly my planes !

My planes are 2m F3A pattern planes with OS 140 engines, and I enjoy the stability and power of the large F3A planes. I enjoy the flowing gracefull maneuvers of pattern flying. NOT 3D !!!

My Raptor is great to fly but I want more power and stability. I watched a X-Cell pro60 fly a few days ago and want one.

My question is which X-Cell should I buy ?

CT, SE, Pro2 or Fury ?

The Fury is the cheapest, but is it as good ? Is it more a 3D machine or is the precision the same ? Will the "old" machines stop being produced in favior of the Fury. Is the Fury a "cheap plastic" machine to compete with some other manufactures. Should i spend the money to get the Pro ?

If anyone has experience(flying and working on) with more than one type please try help me to make up my mind.

I will need to buy all the radio gear and engine equipment. I was thinking about Futaba 9252 x 3 , 601 gyro with 9251 , GV1 and OS 61 SX-H WC with Hatori muff. or Muscle pipe. Any thoughts please ?

Thanks

Paul

Precision Fury

The Fury Expert is a very tight precision model that is well suited to either hard 3D or, with proper setup for use as an FAI style model. For FAI competition I currently use the XL Pro IIK but Miniature Aircraft has plans for make a Fury Expert FAI which will have all the dedicated parts for the hard core contest flyer that likes CCPM, but wil cost more due to the increase in metal parts, like the all metal 848 head and the Pro TR gearbox, and carbon frames. (This is tentative and may change as the model goes into production).
Which will be better? I don't actually know but I would suspect the Pro would be better if you prefer mechanical mixing, and the Fury with CCPM. Either way, you will have a precision model that will perform as well as the pilot.

On a dog sled team, if you're not the lead dog, the view never changes.

HI Paul,

Like many of the MA team pilots who fly contests, I looked at the Fury a year or so ago and saw a killer good sport/3D model, but prematurely dismissed it as unsuitable for smooth, contest flying. "Too twitchy, too jumpy, etc, etc, etc." This past late summer and fall, after flying a friend's Fury, I realized that the model was entirely suitable for contest work. It offered the tight control loop, bomb proof reliable components, light weight, and affordable price that I was looking for. I had concerns about CG shifting with the tank up front, but they have proven to be unfounded. I had flown ProII's for several years, and I won a Nats with them too, so I have nothing bad to say about that model, either. I was looking for a change, and the Fury was on the cutting edge. My first Fury has proven to be a wonderful model, and the second one will be complete in a week or two. I have no regrets in making the change.

Should you decide on the Fury, I can fill you in on the little things I did to optimize the model for contest use. Whether you choose the Fury 60 Expert, Fury Extreme, and Fury FAI (still in the R&D pipe), ALL of these model are fully capable of the smooth flying for which you are looking.

I have a Pro 1 that I have for sale. E-mail me for any specific questions. I am selling it with engine, blades, muffler and T&T aluminum head and tail box for less than a Fury 60 expert kit. I have pictures of it in my gallery.

BTW-eqip. choices

Oh yeah,

Your equipment wish list is quite nice. If you want to do some detailed hovering work at a lower head speed of 1400-1500, you might go with the muffler. The MP runs like a watch with the SXWC, but it prefers a single head speed of 1700rpm+. More power for sure, but a little more nerve racking for close in hovering. The need for a governor is highly questionable with a MP due to the inherent governing effect of a properly adjusted tuned pipe system. With a muffler, the governor is a nice option, though not a necessity.

If you wait a little while, you could get the Fury Extreme with a 80/90 with muffler and keep the pleasant tuning of the muffler and the stump pulling power of the 61/MP....all on only 15 or 20% nitro. LOTS more pleasant sounding, too, due to the lower engine rpm and bigger exhaust chamber.

Thanks guys

My LHS is getting Furys "soon" and I think I will put my order in for a 60 expert. Price is always an important consideration but at the end of the day you must buy what will be the best in the long run (re: Pro 2). The 90 looks good but I am always sold on the "tried and tested" of a proven machine (61 wc)

Thanks again
