Hi all,
I've got a 32 cell VARIO Silence that needed a new Tango motor so since I was down in LA last weekend and stopped in at VARIO USA to see Josef.

Joe and I went flying - he had is new Jet Turbine Heli and I had my video camera.....

It's a 2 min long video, 9.1 Meg - hope you got DSL.

great video - I love it

On the Vario USA web site is another video of a turbine heli and this one is even in a fuselage (Bell 230). I think turbines will be THE choice for scale helis once the prieces are coming down a little bit. You can see it in the jet area too. First was the impeller and now it's (almost) all turbine. Great I love it and one day I'll get one too.

Ya know one thing that surprised me.....

IT WAS SUPER WINDY!!! I tried to keep the camera tucked inside my jacket with my back to the wind.

Maybe 15 MPH - gusting over 25 MPH

He didn't even hesitate to fly, what a nut!

The heli handled it well. I was kind of surprised, especially with 600 deg. exhaust shooting 3lbs of thrust right into the blades!

GT helis are very heavy, have a high head speed & thus are able to handle high winds.

There's a guy at my field who fitted a GT to his Eagle GS. It is heavy, 8kg (17.6lb) I think. He even once strapped a crowbar & wrench to it to load the GT sufficiently - 11kg or 24.2lb! Flew it in similar conditions to yours, hovered like a rock. Oh, he even strapped on a camcorder wrapped in foam! Here's an old link.

He uses the Sophia J850. Anyone know how much thrust it produces? I think it's over 22lb.

wow .... you can't tell the wind at all from the heli but you certainly hear it from the microphone of the camcorder. Well done. Was it a digital camcorder or did you somehow transferred the analog signal into digital signal? Just curiosity though.
