Just finished a days flyin and noticed a considerable film of clutch dust on top of my fan shroud. Anybody else experienced this? Other than that, she's running great.

Jim,

What headspeed are you running?

Some of the latest clutch bells have shipped with a bearing that has a lot of grease in it. You may need to clean the grease out of your clutch and clutch bearing. The grease gets slung out onto the clutch lining and will cause your clutch to slip. This bearing only works when the clutch is disengadged (motor at an idle) so it needs very little, if any, grease.

That should stop any clutch slipping.

Chris, I'm running 1650....And Malorie, I do notice quite a bit of grease on top of the clutch bearing. The easiest way to disassemble the clutch? Thanks for the response, how great it is to hear directly from the Owner/CEO and Chief Pilot!!! Much appreciated.

Jim,

No need to disassemble the clutch.

Pull the clutch and bell out as an assembly, remove the clutch from the bell and clean both pieces with Alcohol. You especially want to remove any grease or oil from the clutch liner.

As far as the clutch "dust', Are you sure it's from the clutch? Check to make sure your not wearing your main gear. 1650 headspeed is right on the money, so I know your clutch is fully engaged.

Keep us up to date,

Thanks for the post Chris. I'll pull the bell out tomorrow and take a look. It doesn't appear to be the main gear, everythings nice and neat with no slop. Thanks again for getting back to me, I really like my Bergen and all the great support.

Also make sure you rinse out the bearing good. I had to wash mine out a couple of times to get all the grease out.

The easiest way to get the clutch out it to remove the main gear. Then take out the triple bearing block and the clutch should lif right off the motor. That way you don't have to re-align your motor. Just adjust your gear mesh again and your all set for another fun day of flying.

Just what I was looking for! Thought I was going to have to loosen the motor mounts and drop the engine. Thanks!
