| Going from memory(or lack of;-) I recall reading in MHW either James Wang or Tom Scully saying that you can install them either way. If you install the nipple to the outside you won't need the washers, if you install the nipple(raised area) to the inside then you'll need the washers. Disconnect the link that goes to the blade pitch arm and see if there is any drag from the damper touching the bearing in the blade grip, there shouldn't be any and the blade grip should move freely.
I installed the "O"ring upgrade from Rick's and it eliminates the TT damper and I could tell a difference in flight for the better. Others have installed the O ring upgrade and say they don't notice any difference at all. The O ring upgrade is $20.00 if you are interested.
