e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > What holds the main gear in place on Hummingbird?

I know that the rotor head is held on with a pin, but I can't figure out the main gear. I want to pull the mainshaft to a) check that I haven't bent it, b) balance the head.

I don't see a pin in it and I can't tell if it screws on or what. Anybody know?

In the normal position, the retaining pin in the main (spur) gear is not easily visible. Remove the head assy., push the mainshaft down and get the needle nose pliers on the lower retaining pin and pull. Voila, finished! If you lose that little bugger, a replacement is easily fabricated from a section cut out of a "T" pin or safety pin of the correct diameter. Put a bit of a bend in it near the middle of the pin and it will be as snug as the original.

Thanks, Boyd! I'm on my way out the door right now and will work on the 'Bird tonight.

I'll report back what I find!

There is no pin....

Okay, I looked real close. There is no pin through the main gear. I guess it's pressed on.

I got it apart, though. I pulled out the two rods that the battery holder hangs from. I don't use the Birdseed battery and they were in the way anyway. I slid the two rods out the front of the frame and was able to drop the mainshaft (with gear attached) from the bottom.

The plans show a pin, but it's not there. The design must've been changed sometime after that drawing was released.

LOL, Boyd! Yeah! I should demand my missing pin (or the cash equivelant).

By the way, I should clarify my last post. I DID NOT remove the two carbon rods that run under the main frame. I removed the hangers for the Birdseed battery. I put the rods back after putting the mainshaft back.
