Is it a good setup?? i hope so. i want to use it for flying around my back yard, and the feild. and of course inside. heres my main question. .....can the aluminum piccolo swashplate be used on the piccolo pro? the stock number is hh134 at helihobby.com also, any building tips? what type of glue etc...

Go with lithium Polymer batteries. The Etechs work best 3-cell etect 1200's

That is the ultimate setup. I think Dreams Hobbies ells it gor $725

they last like 20 minutes. You can get 2 for like $80 if you search hard enough.

Don't waste your money unless it is the CNC swashplate for the Pro. Also I would go with a set of seperates instead of the Picoboard, it's a piece of junk. The Phoenix 10 speed controller is nice and it has a built in governor.

This may help

Take a look at the page I put together for my Pro. It is very 3D capable and I love the thing. Flys as good as my Raptor.
Piccolo Pro Setup Info

Here is a video of it in flight:

Hope this helps, Post any additional questions.

good info on what you have, but my main question is, how do you take the picco board out, and use a normal esc? you would need one on the tail to...right? why doesnt the piccoboard pro have govenor mode? i think i will be fine with throttle curves....

Hello

All the suggestions for seperate components are right on. Skip the board and go for a speed controller for the main and tail such as the Schulze 18He(assuming you are using a brushless motor) and a Schulze Slim 105He(for the tail, its the best on the market IMHO). Then all you need to do is plug your tail ESC into your gyro(I highly suggest recommend the JR410 or the GY240) and then plug everything into the Rx. You may have to play with the trim settings so that the tail ESC will initalize but it isnt to hard.

Oh and just so you know, I think the Schulze Slim 105He would also make a good main ESC for the Orion. Its high switching frequency will lengthen the life of the motor brushes.

I think 3 lithium Polys(specifically 3 Etech 1200s) are the way to go for a high preformance micro heli. They give you long flights and are ligher than any 8 cell aaa pack but if getting a charger is a problem then 8 cell Power Ex packs are the way to go.

The only aluminum swash that will work with the Pro(that I know of) is made by Warren at WC Machine. If you want an aluminum swash just get his with the pitch slider.

You dont need this: aluminum flybar arms

You will probably never break the stock Pic Pro flybar arms and they dont slip.....well not when mounted on the Pic Pro flybar.

The Pic Pro kit comes with thin CA; you only need to apply a little to make a good bond.

To kill a little weight you could use just one HS55 on the pitch and 2 HS50 on the cyclic but what you have will work.

Oh, you may want to switch to a 7.2 volt GWS grey enbell motor with a 10 tooth pinion. I get the longest motor life with this combo and the motor temperature is lower. If you decided to stick with the Pic Pro combo then just use the GWS EDF 50 motors for the tail with the stock 8 tooth pinion.

As for building tips, take your time and make sure you set everthing up neatly. Neatness is important because it forces you to really check you micro over to make sure you didnt miss anything. You will also need to stiffen the rotor head so that your blades track and stay tracked.

Here is a Pic of my Pro.

thanks alot eco8gator! Tell me the FULL advantage to having a esc, instead of a picco board...if its just a govenor, ill go with the picco board. im fine with throttle curves and pitch curves. im going to get a hacker b20 18L . i also get 2 etech 3 cell 1200 batteries. Im probably going to get the wes tec charger that uses dc power. its only 40 bucks.

Ill drop out the swashplate, and the flybar things. Thanks!

alright, here my final setup.........

piccolo pro
hacker brushless motor B20-18L
2) e tech 3c 1200 batteries
wes tech charger
micro deans
3 HS-55 servos
Piccoboard pro
micro Z72 antenna
Aluminum piccolo head
anti rotation for cp
main shaft collar
center swash ball
tail motor heat sink
piccolo cf radio gear and battery extension

Im not going to use this heli for 3-d. just for some good flying around and showing it off. i will do some mild 3d with it, but noting to hard. im going to keep the piccoboard pro just because it doesnt really matter to me. this will be my second ship. so while im flying, its charging

Hello

How do you plan on using the Hacker with the PiccoBoard? The only way it can be done is if you solder on a Brushless ESC to the PiccoBoard. Remember, the Piccoboard(Pro, Plus, whatever) is only for brushed motors. Since you have to use a brushless controller you might as well loose all the extra dead weight and get quality components. The Schulze Slim is definitally the shining jewel in the tail section. Its high switching frequency saves tail motor brushes and it is super smooth and seems to get along with gyro much better than others. I like the Schulze 18He controller for my main motor becasue it can handle excess loads with no problems and it has a super smooth ramp up, I have heard that the Castle Creations Phoinex 10 is another great brushless controller(I thing there is also a Hacker Master controller for micro helicopters). The advantage of the brushless controllers listed is you can adjust the controllers settings to the motor you are using(switching frequency, timimg, govenor, ect). Then from there you can buy a decent gyro for the tail, you will need it if you plan of having trouble tail worry free fun

For a good gyro, and a brushless controller and the Schulze Slim 105 He you are looking at 210-220 so you are not really saving anything getting the Piccoloboard( also add the brushless controller for your motor).

Oh and if you dont already have Rx for your Pro then I hughly recommend the Berg 5 @ www.rc-direct.com

It seems if i got piccoboard less, it will cost at least 100 bucks more...i may go with a hornet....with every upgrade, but i didnt really like the hornet. but it was my first heli...im actually thinking of getting the hornet instead. it seems it will be a little more trouble free. should i? i will put about every upgrade possible on it, soooooo

Corey11,

Talk to Jim from Bayside. He is the one who flies all the electrics. It was his BAD influence that FORCED me to buy a Logo 10!!

I have Jim's email. If you want PM me and I will send it to you.

I am running a Phonex 25 with a B20-18. Can the rpms be set on the low/high settings, or are they fixed?
